Another item that may create confusion is that some manufacturers decide to label the remaining pins across and then back down to the 2nd row (starting out right to left just like the top row). This becomes ambiguous when others decide to keep on jumping with the pin numbering inbetween the rows, such that one row contains odd and the other row contains the even numbered pins.
