I still ask "what is the matter with building a mall, setting the rent
standard (be it high, med. or low) and collecting that rent? Of course the
landlords have a right to charge what they want and take a profit cut, but
in my opinion, that's leeching off of others. Here is an example - If
someone rents a stall at a mall at lower rents to get started and the
landlord takes a cut of the profits - when the business grows very
profitable, when does it stop? If it never stops, then said landlord can
grow prosperous, pay for the mall and sit back and live off of other's
sweat! Even big corporations pay a salery. I repeat - landlords are business
investors - they can win or lose the game. Why should they ask their tenants
to risk with them?

Annie...There's nothing wrong with it, it's just that you won't make it,
financially. And that's the free economy working.

Those were very good Gary. Our system is the best - now, if we could just
get away from all those plastic, grinning, baby kissing, born rich,
un-known, down the line, old men politicians that we have to choose from,
that all act like they took a course in the 'Method Acting' school! I guess
being born rich doesn't have too much to do with it - but would like to see
a middle class working person in there at least ONCE in a while! =*--ANN--*=

A quote from the Repulsive! "Vice-presidential candidate Dan Quayle has a
marginally elevated cholestrol level, a minor skin condition caused by
exposure to the sun and allergy-related nasal problems, a doctor's report
released by Quayle's office said friday".
Man - lets get rid of this sicko! He's not fit to be vice-president, much
less president! With this kind of health record, I'll bet he's hiding
Hemroids! (He's sitting on them!) =*--ANN--*=

To one point: I don't believe that the function of government should be the
distribution of resources, either, but so long as extremists on both the
left and the right continue to think that government should involve itself
in the distribution of my resources, I will support whatever political
functionaries exist who want to distribute it my way!
As to the election of "12 popular people" to form an oligarchy to govern the
country, sorry, guy: you know that an elephant is a mouse designed by a
committee. I happen to have spent several years on the board of directors
of a retirement complex owned by a mutual benefit fraternity. All board
members were elected to that body by popular acclaim. After three years on
the board, I was instrumental in forming a political action arm to cause the
requirement of basic, minimum qualifications for anyone who will be involved
in the policy making and running of a million dollar non profit corporation.
Now isn't that what our government should be? A body of people involved in
the running of a multibillion dollar entity?
Ann- Yes, the media has caused us to have all these plastic political
yo-yos running for office. Inagine a man like Dukakis calling himself a
democrat. Millionaire Liberal is an oxymoron for sure! The only real
political troops this country has seen this century have been Harry (Give
'em hell) Truman, and Barry Goldwater. All the rest were smarmy a$$ kissers

All the rest of those A.K.'s have been elected by popular vote, rather than
by qualifications. I can just see a government composed of bimbos and hunks
elected by popular acclaim making intelligent decisions about the country.
Read some political satire once in a while. Especially classical satire
like Animal Farm or Gulliver's Travels. Safire writes great commentary on
what the popular press has done to this country. Popular elections! Har,
har, har, har, har, har, har, har, etc. Sometimes it hurts when you laugh!

I am talking about a group of men and women sitting around a table
and discussing issues on national television. Whatever was decided by them
would be subject to the approval of congress. Twelve heads are better than
one when it comes to debate. The nation could tune in to the 'process' and
actively take a part by voicing their opinion through a 1-900 VOTE number.
It would only cost 50 cents to vote.
In this way no one could much complain because the majority voted.
The way it is now leaves me kinda sick because our national leaders have a
closed door policy (for all practical purposes). Nixon would never have
been able to pull (ha) off Watergate and Reagan, North, et al would have
been discovered on the Contra affair at its inception.
If a member of the (12) presidents council wanted to step down, the
replacement would then be the next person on the list with the next higher
number of votes. Same for a death or an impeacement. Of course, with the
nation watching, the chaff would be taken from the grain in short order as
this process could be done by popular vote, easily. 1-900-VOTER.
In any case, what I am trying to accomplish is to allow a government
of the people, by the people, for the people, not a government by the big
wigs, as it is now.
Our political system needs overhauled.
Have a good laugh, I have read Gullivers Travels and Animal Farm and
I still do not see the problem you mentioned, all I see is a better way.
Let the light shine in on the activities of this country. Rod

As long as everyone supports a concept of government as all powerful
provider and just tries to manipulate it to their own advantage, there can
be no real freedom. Government does not produce anything, it prevents and
steals production. When government distributes to one it steals from
another. A government which existed solely to protect the rights of its
citizens to be free from any threat would not need policy makers because it
would have no power or need to change policies.

That sort of Darwinian "survival of the fittest" libertarian environment
would work, but it would violate some ethical principles that most people
hold. For example, take the case of an oversupply of labor, and the absence
of any government programs (welfare, minimum wage, etc.). Wages would fall
to the point where it would be impossible to live on the prevailing wage.
People would die due to lack of food, shelter, and/or medical care. That
would reduce the supply of labor, pushing wages higher. For this system to
work, of course, we'd have to get rid of our morals regarding human life.
Or take the example of pollution. It is not profitable to protect the
environment from irreversable damage, particularly when the damage may be
felt ten years or more from now. Therefore, lacking government regualtions,
there is no reason for a company not to pollute.

For state representative and senator, I'm in district 20 (currently
Sen. Lela Alston-D, Rep. Debbie McCune-D, Rep. Bobby Raymond-D). For US
representative, I'm in district 4.
The Republican candidate for senator is Ted Humes (bleah!), and the
candate for representative is Georia Hargan (who I haven't heard of).

I have heard that some preacher is now saying that the second comming of
Christ will be on September 14th. My question to the religious folks out
ther is, if this is true, will it mess up my vacation that I'm taking a few
days later? Among the disasters Revelations predicts, is the closing of
Disneyland one of them?
