Some land may have changed hands in ways that would not be acceptable now,
but stealing it from its present owners would compound the crime,
not undo it. Should we trace back your entire family tree to the beginning
of mankind and hold you responsible for any unpunished crimes they may have
committed? The logic is about the same.
In specific cases where wrong-doing can be proven and the villain still
holds the land, the victims are able to get restitution through the courts.
The Federal government, for example, has lost a judgement to the Sioux
indians for the taking of the Black Hills. It has yet to be resolved,
because the indians are holding out for more, but the decision has already
gone in their favor.

I can see your frustrations about our present land ownership
situation in your posts.
I also wonder what would happen to you, with your present train of
thought, if you were placed in the Medevil times.
From what I can see throughout history, the average person enjoys
more opportunities to own land than they did in years past. I do not see
where land ownership policies have regressed any, but I do see where this
day and age has not meet up to your idealistic, harmonious, free-spirited
concept of land vs. the average person.
Who knows, maybe you are ahead of your time. Too, far ahead to see
results in your lifetime. Be patient, Rod; you will be in the history books
1,000 years from now as the one who pioneered the 'everyone gets what they
want' concept.

The really silly part of that letter is the line "During the years from 1981
to 1988 nearly 12 million Americans lost jobs as a result of no-notice or
short-notice plant closings and mass layoffs." Aside from the fact that the
12 million figure ignores the fact the number of these people who got new
jobs with better pay and working conditions, I fail to see how those
lay-offs are a RESULT of the lack of notice -- as if notice would save the
jobs. The opposite is true, of course: making companies less flexible and
increasing their costs makes them less competitive in the world market, and
results in many more lost jobs.

You're engaging in the holier-than-thou attitude typical of the left.
You regard those who disagree with you as less compassionate and lacking in
moral character. The irony is that you then turn around and denounce
Christians for the same attitude.
I'm afraid that I prefer JT's view of opponents as misguided and
unintelligent to the preaching moralism of the left. If you truly think
that those of us who believe in a free society, unburdened by a
paternalistic government, don't care about the less fortunate and the
trapped, then you really are deluded.

An American wrote the following on systems of government about 140 years
ago:
Is Democracy, such as we know it, the last improvement possible in
government? Is it not possible to take a step further towards recognizing
and organizing the rights of man? There will never be a really free and
enlightened state until the state comes to recognize the individual as a
higher and independent power, from which all its power and authority are
derived, and treats him accordingly. I please myself with imagining a state
at least which can afford to be just to all men, and to treat the individual
with respect as a neighbor; which even would not think it inconsistent with
its own repose if a few were to live aloof from it,not meddling with it, nor
embraced by it, who fulfilled all the duties of neighbors and fellow men. A
state which bore this kind of fruit, and suffered it to drop off as fast as
it ripened, would prepare the way for a still more perfect and glorious
state, which also I have imagined, but not yet anywhere seen.

Burkhart has a point. You have no business accusing him, me, Hathaway, or
anyone else of lacking compassion or being morally inferior simply because
we reject your ignorant and asinine assertions about economics, politics,
physics, and so forth.
You are 46 years old, if I recall correctly. A man your age should have
experienced enough in life to develop a little humility. You remind me of
me at age 18, except that I was a bit more coherent. Why don't you grow up
and admit that people can disagree with you without being moral failures.
Given that Burkhart and I have studied these matters far more extensively
than you, a bit of humility about your "opinions" -- which are really
nothing more than baseless, impulsive observations -- would be in order as
well.

I agree that using swear words in the wrong movie at the wrong time can ruin
it! It seems they do put them in and a sex scene or two to get that 'R'
rating. But it can also be used as an advantage and help form a character.
The movies are much more realistic today than the old ones. Whether it makes
them better is a matter of personal opinion. But such movies like Platoon,
Preditor, Aliens, would be phony without those words. You look at a old war
movie and 'damn' isn't even said by someone with their leg just shot off!
Ha. As far as the stand-up comics are conserned - some go way over board
like Eddy Murphy - he's a halarious guy in most movies (swearing) - but his
comedy routines are not funny because he says that one particular word too
much. I think Robin Williams puts on a great comedy - he uses those words,
but not all that much. Whoopie Goldburg is another. Of course, you might not
agree and probably have your favorites. As far as 'That WORD' is concerned -
(and you know which one) - it's only a word! If they used 'damn' too much,
it would ruin a movie too! But I detest movies that have been edited no
matter what they are! I usually don't watch them. It ruins them.
Speaking of the 'R' rating - when I go to rent a movie, if it's PG I usually
don't get it because I like 'gore - blood - hacking - axes - chain saws -
- monsters that eat people - Jason - brains exploding - Freddy - and ghosts
that suck the life out of people! Hahahaha. No realism for me! See you
later. =*--ANN--*=

Personally, I enjoy a good suspense or mystery. One of those that hold you
on the edge of your seat until the credits end.
Once in a great while, I'll get into a kinky mood and watch one of the
horror flicks, although they are usually poorly made and less than real.
I am looking forward to the Lady in White though, which is playing on
Viewers Choice this week. Probably, if I had to choose the best one I have
seen recently, it would be Suspect, with Cher.THe story was excellent, the
acting likewise, and the ending was superb.
I also like a good musical, but they don't make those any more. Fiddler on

get 'Prince of Darkness'... The last 30 seconds of the movie will make you
jump out of your seat!!! Allthough you religious type may not like the over
all 'plot', which is, the bible was changed to create a 'GOD' to cover up
Satan., the movie itself (I thought) had just the right amount of suspence,
scary parts, and COMEDY!

You can bet your bippie that if such a proposal was ever approved in Az.,
everybody's rates would go up to cover Ma Bell's losses!
I live in the Glendale dialing area, and it costs me almost $40 a month
base bill for a Zone A number. If they approve the abolishment of interzone
calls, it won't be long before everybody is paying $40 a month. That's base,
no frills or "conveniences".

Sorry about that last. Another reason to go to Lincoln is when your company
sends you! We have a customer in Lincoln, one in Omaha, and one in Council
Bluffs, Iowa. I "get" to go to that area a couple of times a year.
Omaha wasn't too bad this time around. September in the mid-west is real
nice. THe leaf color change won't be as spectacular this year since they
had the bad wind storm last summer. On the Iowa side of the river all the
big trees are broken, and lots of brown branches where they were broken off.
Oh well, it's not as bad as Yellowstone.
Speaking of all this destruction, fire, and pestilance, what ever happened
to the rapture? I was flying last Tuesday and was a bit concerned that my
pilot might turn out to be one of the "elect."
Another subject. Can any of you status people tell me what this dollar sign

signed on.

Nothing beats the old Alfred Hitchcock mysteries - my opinion, Vertigo being
the best! OF course, theres Phycho - no movie scared me as much when it
first came out!
If you want to be scared out of your wits without blood & gore - rent Ghost
Story starring Douglas Fairbanks Jr., John Houseman, Fred Astair and Melvin
Douglas. Also, there's an old movie called the Uninvited - starring Ray
Malland and Ruth Hussy. I doubt it can be rented however - but if your

Helpful information would include policies and procedures

Unfortunately, I've seen and read so much, that I'm almost immune - the last

employees suffering from AIDS, alcohol or drug abuse! I thought they had a
right to do that, but the media put too much pressure to them. Especially
the alcohol & drugs. These things - even if they are not actually used on

that AIDS is the only thing that may NOT be the employee's fault!

We have found a use for it... We are not exactly in a hurry to get
rid of it now. And when we were selling it for $50.00, that was to get
people into the store.... and let them carry it out... Since then we have
priced them in stores such as "Price Savers" and you can't get that model
that cheap. It was a super deal at $50.00 (40.00 was an insult for a unit
you would not even look at) and $75.00 is a good deal still.
The DEMAND went up when we found a use for it...
I'd rather MicroWave two bags of popcorn at the SAME time then sell
it for $50.00!

The sign over the entrance read 'Slumberland Cemetery' in faded gothic
lettering. Two wrought iron angels graced the huge iron gates, looking
more like demons than angels. One gate was swinging in the wind, making
an ear jarring squeak and looked to be ready to fall off it's hinges at
any time. Many people did not know that this was Phoenix's oldest
cemetery. Some of the first settlers were buried there and also some of
the Indians. But most of the tombstones were rotted away and all of the
Indians were buried in unmarked graves. At the turn of the century and
later years, no decent white folks would be buried with an dirty
Indian, but there had been no place to bury them, so they did it in the
dark of night and no one knew except for the caretaker and grave
digger. Sometimes when a new grave was dug, they'd find the rotting
bones of some long dead Indian and just bury the new body right along
with them and no one was the wiser.
People also didn't know that the cemetery was still in use. The last
body was buried there in 1987.
On this dank and clammy September night, the ancient caretaker was
making his rounds. Lately, kids were coming in and upsetting the
tombstones or writing graffiti and he hoped to catch them in the act.
He wanted to scare the hell out of them. Actually, he need not bother
to do anything because one look at him would scare the hell out of most
folks! His face was lined deeply and he looked to be - Cont.

the fingernails had fetid dirt permanently embedded underneath them.
His back was bent over caused from so many years of digging graves. He
now walked with a slow shuffle. No one knew where he came from or how
long he'd been the caretaker and grave digger. They would be surprised
to know that at one time he was a famous Phoenix locksmith with the
best of reputations. In those days, he walked straight as an arrow with
a youthful twinkle in his eye and humor was his mainstay. James Hawley
was his given name, but he had acquired the name 'Digger' so long ago
that even he forgot what his real name was. He didn't care. The
Cemetery was his whole life and he wasn't going to let some damn drug
using kids mar 'His Cemetery' and he'd get them for sure!
His lantern cast eerie shadows on the tombstones as he shuffled by each
one. His feet were kicking up the long dead leaves. Soon, he had
reached the newer section of the Cemetery and stopped dead in his
tracks. Something was wrong - dead wrong! That smell! It meant only one
thing to Digger! Those rotten kids had dug up a grave! He made haste
down the long aisles of the dead, all the time, the odor getting
stronger. He reached the last one and held his lantern high.
