Yes - I'm sure it's changed since I've been there - can you honestly say for
the better though? And hey fellow, I had plumbing when I was a kid living in
downtown L.A. But we didn't have smog! Yes - I know some places are banning
smoking entirely and when that does happen, I will open up a restaurant or
bar and allow smoking and will make a fortune! Right now we quit going to
restaurants in Scottsdale because they have banned it. Damn if their going
to get my money when they won't let me smoke after a meal!
But you can have California. It is however the most beautiful state on a
whole than I've ever seen, but the southern coastal cities are ruined and
that includes San Diego too! Ta, ta. =*--ANN--*=

Your post is SICK. Hey, I got it, let's build many more prisons and
fill 'em up with the people on the street. Yeah, let's jail them and in
that way we can ignore the problems which cause rape, robbery, murder and
generally stressed out people. Good idea.
Are you planning to run for public office?
Just one of the reasons we have big problems is the news that is
thrown at us each hour of the day concerning war and the military.
Many of the leaders belong in insane asylums.
By the way, many of the people who are in institutions are there in
order to excape a cruel world. They just can't handle the reality we
created. I don't blame them.

I thought Bentson clearly won that debate last night! But then again, he is
a polished politician with a plastic face that is used to the press, TV and
making public addresses. His mouth is probably permenently puckered from
kissing so many babies! Quayle on the other hand is certainly a pleasure to
look at, (What beautiful teeth!) but he stammered and was hesitant too much.
Comparing himself to Kennedy was a big joke though. Not even close! He may
improver however. Bentson will never improve - he already has everything
down pat like a good politician should. My opinion is I wouldn't want either
for president, but then again, I don't want Ducaca or Bush! Not that I would
vote for them - but a Bush/Bentson ticket would be better. I still say this
is 'slim pickings' - but who ever gets in, I have hope! Why not? IF one of
the presidential candidates wins - I still hope it's Ducaca - but Bush will
get it! Me - I'm still voting Libertarian. =*--ANN--*=

of us poor miguided Americans have so little access to the real, un-censored
news, I was hoping that you could find it in your heart to enter some of the
uncensored news from the same, obviously unbiased, source which was slanted

Decline in genetic diversity spells disaster
Diversity in the gene pool is shrinking at an alarming
rate and could lead to what the science editor of the
*Christian Science Monitor* calls "a mass extinction of
Earth's plant and animal species." Species extinction of
both plants and animals has accelerated rapidly in the 20th
century and now has reached a state of crisis. From 1600 to
1900, one species disappeared every four years; but now
perhaps 1,000 species become extinct each year. The June
1987 Worldwatch Institute pamphlet on conserving the diversity
of life predicts that the extinction rate in 20 years will
reach more than 100 species per day.
The loss of life-forms is more than an aesthetic issue.
The rapid extinction of food crop germplasm represents a
disaster in the making. Unless the trend is slowed, we
could see famine on a global scale. The International
Board for Plant Genetic Resources warns that the genetic
diversity of many of the world's staple food crops such as
wheat, rice, barley, millet, and sorghum are imperiled.
Seventy-two percent of the U.S. potato crop is concentrated
in four genetic strains. Six varieties account for 71
percent of the corn crop. Of the catalogued vegetables
grown in The U.S. from 1901 to 1902, less than 4 percent
still existed in 1985.
Genetic diversity is a prerequisite for agricultural
success. Genetic uniformity makes crops vulnerable to
environmental threats such as pests, blight, and drought.
The 19th century Irish potato famine was the result of
genetic uniformity, as was the 1953 and 1954 loss of 75
percent of the U.S. durum wheat crop and of half the 1970
corn crop.
The reduction of diversity has lead to what some
researchers call the global "seed wars." As plant species
disappear around he world, access to and control over the
preservation of plant genetic resources becomes a matter of
international concern and conflict. Most of the world's
genetic resources are concentrated in the Third World. To
prevent crop strains from becoming too inbred, industrial
nations resort to "germplasm appropriation" - collecting
plant genetic material from Third World countries. The fact
that those countries are not compensated for this
"collection" further exacerbates tensions between industrial
and developing nations.
The Plant Variety Protection Act of 1970, which allowed
corporations to patent seed varieties, has accelerated the
extinction rate of food crop germplasm. Germplasm
appropriated from the Third World is sold back to developing
countries in the form of hybridized, patented seed. Farmers
in the world's centers of diversity are planting genetically
uniform crops more and more frequently, thus causing further
loss of indigenous seed. The United Nations Food and
Agriculture Organization estimates that two-thirds of all
Third World crops will be from uniform strains by the year
2000.

Time ticked by slowly as the remaining Apolloites were deciding when
to hold the EMERGENCY meeting. Where was obvious, but the when kept eluding
everyone still alive; a long standing tradition among the Apollo BBS $tatus
Users.
The news of Digger sped things up a bit though. Now assembled in the
safe and secure abode of the Mighty SySops the remaining Apolloites, with
the exception of Ann, she disappeared again, started discussing WHO the
twisted mind was behind all these brutal slayings.
Sandy, the quick witted of the SySops, offers everyone present a
Rum and Coke knowing that calm minds think better. Zak, of course, takes
two. Rod asks for a straw. Dean and Alan shyly take one placing the drink
between their legs in hopes the others present will not notice. Daryl takes
three not wanting to be out done by Zak.
With nerves calmed the meeting begins. But before Sandy could
announce who she thought the mentally disturbed maniac was a loud bang was
heard outside rattling the gate. No sooner than the sound ceased a figure
could be seen smashing its way through the iron gates. All present stood up
in horror. Were they all to perish? Is this the end of the Apolloites?
Where is there Savior? Who can save them from this hour of death? Will the
members present be able to make a decision soon enough to save themselves?
As the SySop's solid oak door was torn into splinters .........
