Glad to hear you beat the garbage rap, it's a *MAJOR PAIN*. I've had similar
problems in the past. I've got 1.5 regular jobs at the moment, and some very
noisey neighbors who would prefer to prevent my sleep.
The God of Bellybuttons *DOES* sound good, though.

Well.. you guys were right... I crashed and burned with those new
Bias Ply Red lines.... but not for the same reason you all suggested.
I was able to go OVER 35 MPH.... However, in my zest to finish my Cuda, I
ordered in those tires and wheels and lug nuts and other assorted parts
thinking I had this nice big job I was working on. No sooner had I placed
the orders, the job was pulled back in by the company who issued me the job
to begin with. Well... I ran out of FRNS and could not feed the family. I
did not have any Gold bars or Silver coins stashed either. To make things
worse, I had NOTHING to do for 18 days and could find no work. And even
worse... Sandy was 'pissed' and has told me clearly... I am not to buy
anything else for the Cuda, till... we are back up to snuff in the ol'bank
book. To me...that is as bad as a 'Crash & Burn'.... Sniff

Remember back a few months ago.. (last summer).. My truck was shot
by some kids who had nothing better to do. Well, the case FINALLY came to
court... and WE have been awarded the full asking price of our claim.
Not only that, but at my suggestion, they are sending that kid to a
gun safety class.. as ordered by the court! The mother hates guns so much
she has kept her son totally in the dark by pretending guns do not exist.
She said she never would even let him have toy guns. No wonder that this
youngster had this un-supervised curiosity about guns. The mother believes
ignorance is the best way to handle weaponds. The court believes otherwise.
Now to collect the money.... Sigh!

Glad you got your settlement awarded at last. The court also seems to have
some sense for a change. This was even relatively speedy for our justice
system -- what was it, fifteen months?
Now if you can actually lay your hands on the money, will Sandy let you get
some more bits for the Cuda? :)

I picked up a Glock yesterday also. I went to a little gun show at the
American Legion post on Thomas. (Or is it the VFW? I always get them
muddled.) Unlike you, I didn't pay for the Glock, so I had to put it down
again afterwards. It did solve a mystery for me, though. I've seen the
trigger mechanism described consistently as "double action" by several
writers -- and part of the trigger pull does in fact complete the cocking of
the striker -- though some of those writers did go on to mention vaguely
that the first part of the cocking is done when the slide goes forward into
battery. Only the writer in that "Handgun Buyers' Guide", which I suspect
is the one that you read -- I picked up a copy of it in K Mart (and had to
put it back afterwards for the same reason) -- bothered to say explicitly
that if the pistol is completely decocked, you *do* have to rack the slide
before you can try to fire it again. All right, it's a small point, and it
would only make a difference to the operation if you had a misfire. But it
annoys me when people make inaccurate claims. The Glock does have the
*safety* advantage of double-action-only, and much of the trigger lightness
of single action. That's because it isn't true double action; it's sort of
"one-and-a-half-action-only" if you like.
Jeff Parks, a local gun dealer I spoke to, said he'd found some difficulty
shooting the Glock as accurately as some other pistols because of the weight
distribution. As that high-capacity magazine slowly emptied, the weight in
the butt gradually reduced and he found himself changing his grip on the
pistol, which altered the point of impact. Practice might overcome this.

I'd guess that because the Glock frame is so light, more of the weight may
be toward the muzzle compared with other pistols (since the barrel is
steel); although I thought it balanced quite well when I picked one up. Now
Ruger makes a nice solid 9mm at an extremely competitive price (I've seen
these for well under $400). Course, they did have a little problem a while
back when one owner's pistol fired as he operated the decocker. Could have
been nasty! It's a salutary reminder not to trust mechanical devices like
that. Ruger recalled all of them, so I'm sure they've fixed that problem.
But I didn't like the balance on the Ruger at all. It seemed far too
muzzle-heavy compared with almost anything else
Like Sandy, I like the feel of the SIG-Sauer -- though I've never fired one.
It's expensive too. Another really great 9mm pistol is the CZ75, especially
the original Czech version. According to the Republic a couple of weeks
back, we were supposed to be seeing a lot of firearms imports from ex-Iron
Curtain countries at very low prices -- which was worrying the anti-gun
nuts. Well, there seem to be a few CZs here now, but the advantage of that
low price must have disappeared into the pockets of the wholesalers in the
export/import trade. There *was* one at the gun show for $475, but
according to the seller the later imports are going for well upward of $500.
Anyway, this business of grip is a very personal one, so you needn't expect
the same difficulty with the Glock that Jeff has. He also says he doesn't
like the PPK because he "doesn't know what to do with his little finger".

His personal favorite in a 9mm is the H&K, which he finds very accurate.
Now I don't know how I'd get on with that squeeze-cocker thing. And of
course, he would pick the most expensive 9mm of the lot -- though he did
have a nice *used* one on sale for $599. (Any connection, do you suppose?)
My neighbor has powerful hands -- mechanic's hands -- yet he says he could
never shoot a .45 Colt auto very well. It could be because his fingers,
though strong, are too short and stubby to get around the butt properly.
If you find that you can't shoot the Glock quite as accurately as your 626,
I wouldn't be too surprised. I imagine that 626 is a pretty nice steady
target gun with a good trigger. Also, I've heard that most autos for some
reason just don't shoot as well right out of the box as a new revolver does.
As for me, my shootin' ain't good enough to tell the difference, though I
must say that I can shoot that .38 Colt revolver single action as well as or
better than anything of comparable power. And so can my wife.
Good suggestion of yours that people without a firearm can just come along
to the GT and contribute some ammo. I'd imagine that .38 Special and 9mm
would be good choices for many of the guns that will be there. What else?
.223 perhaps? A box of 20 costs $5 or less. It's definitely cheating,
though, for someone to show up with a couple of dusty old ammo boxes dug out
of the attic and an expression of feigned surprise as they say "Whaddya
mean, nobody has an 8mm Roth-Steyr or a .58 caliber U.S. Berdan musket?"

(Funny, back in the 50s and 60s there used to be a bandleader in England
whose name was Joe Loss. I remember my Uncle George making corny jokes
about "Joe Loss and his brother, Dead".) But this is about WEIGHT loss.
I might lose a pound or two more just as a safety margin, but currently I'm
at 148 lb., which is OK for my 5' 11". I've never had a serious weight
problem, but ice cream and beer does make it float up 20 lb. or so and I
hate stuff hanging over my belt. I have the yo-yo syndrome. It's all very
well for these dietitians in newspapers and magazines who tell you "it's no
good just dieting to lose weight, you have to learn new eating habits to
keep it off." I enjoy my food, and those "new eating habits" are *boring*!
It's also all very well for experts to say things like "you can eat all the
foods you enjoy, as long as you have small portions". For me, part of the
fun of a good meal *is* being able to relax and eat as much as I like.
The only thing that works well for me is to make up for "serious eating"
with "serious dieting". I don't stay motivated to diet and lose weight
unless I can see the weight falling off day by day. So dieting for me is
very strict: a salad and veggies and some meat, fish or chicken, every day.
Virtually nothing else, no ice cream and beer especially. I'm easing up a
lot now and eating extra things, but I think the best way of maintaining my
weight is to eat what I like at weekends and be fairly strict the rest of
the week. Oh, and I hate exercise. And running gives me a stitch.

What with my poor eating habits and lack of much vigorous exercize, I have
developed quite a center section since I retired a few years ago, but I'm
sort of reluctant to take it off. FOr one thing, I'm not sure how to
concentrate weight loss on just that portion of my bod, and for another, I
think I'll be able to get into the Santa suit this year without a pillow. I
guess every minus has a corresponding plus, maybe. The excess in front does
get uncomfortable, though.

Re: he'd found some difficulty shooting the Glock as accurately as some
other pistols
I took both the S&W 357 and the Glock to Shooters World today to do some
testing. I seem to have better accuracy shooting the S&W using single
action than the Glock. I think the reason is the trigger pull. The S&W has
a hair trigger. I can squeeze off a round before I react to the shot, but
with the Glock, I seem to react to the shot before it shoots. The Glock has
a long trigger pull. Most of the distance I can take up before I feel the
resistance of the release, but it still gets me. I did improve as I tried
to overcome my fault of reacting to the shot.
Does any of that make sense?

I really appreciate your distillation of the opinion in this case. It is
clear to me that the failure to tell the jury that it has the right to find

Here's my undoubtably unwelcome and disliked opinion about aids but
it's my opinion and if you don't like it it won't change it.
I doubt if anyone can accurately determine just where and when the AIDS
virus got its start from. Statistically, early cases inclined to show us
that homosexuals and drug abusers were by far a vast majority even when
it was first paid any media attention.
So to say it's anything *but* a homo & druggie disease is to promote
a lie. Just because it's managed to spread into the bisexual and into
the heterosexual population doesn't mean that its origins should be ignored.
It would only take a few spiteful homos to go and have intercourse with
some prostitutes to get it to spread everywhere.
"You can touch and hug someonewith aids without getting the disease..{
Yeah, and I could touch and hug a bum out in the streets. Is this
AD campaigne designed to proffer public pity towards those who
so selfishly and foolishly contracted a deadly disease in full knowledge
for the past 10 years that you could get AIDS by screwing around with
protitutes, gays, drugs and casual encounters?
I don't buy this "We didn't know" line . You staple an ad in the newspaper
