How many people could make it to a GT at my house this weekend? We live in
the northeast part of town, near Cave Creek Road and 12th Street. It is not
a very big place, but I think it could handle the turnout of any GT I have
been to yet. It could be Saturday or Sunday or maybe even both. It could be
a cookout, a drunken brawl, or whatever. We live on the edge of the Phoenix
Mountain Preserve, so hiking and biking are even a possibility.
If people are interested we need to decide how and when and what people
want to bring. It will be largely Bring-Your-Own on consumables if it
happens, since we don't drink.
Let me know if people are interested and we will put something together. I
even have some photos and videos of past GTs to show to anyone who is
interested. You could even gaze upon the video image of James Taranto from
the JB's GT. You will even hear him speak.

I didn't feel good about the possibility of winning this contest when I
started it, made up the rules, and ended it. I would be a lot happier just
writing a story for fun and encouraging others to do some writing also. If
we have another contest in which I don't make up the rules, etc then I will
be happy to enter.

Forget the Kontest - you won fair and square it looks like to me! Why?
Simply because most of the voters thought your's was the best. There is no
reason why your good story should not have been included because you started
the Kontest. So forget it - sit back and get your Glory, Laud and honor that
is due you. Congratulations! Lets do it again soon. -=*) ANN (*=-

Yeah, I've got another twisted story idea. Just another way the
world could end, that's all. And as my last story pointed out a very real
way this planet could become meaningless to humans, the other idea is just
as viable, in fact, it is happening right now, under our noses.

Yes, we've paid for it, but the city is hoping to get back some of the costs
by charging those who actually 'use it' (that is, attend). Think of it as a

I do believe that there are less expensive seats available. It's like the

When the emissions control system of a late-model automobile is functioning
in "closed loop" mode, tailpipe emissions are very low. After your car has
warmed up, and assuming that you haven't been idling for an extended period
(more than 5 minutes or so), your vehicle will switch to closed loop.
Basically that means that the car adjusts it fuel/air ratio according to the
oxygen sensor's input, and that the catalyst is sufficiently warm to
function properly. Since today's cars warm up rather quickly, and most
people don't waste gas idling for extended periods, you're usually operating
in closed loop. The purpose of the emissions test is to confirm that the
system is functioning properly when it is in closed loop, at both idle and
cruise speeds. Most emissions are produced at cruise (when the car would be
in closed loop if functioning properly), so the test is useful enough.
I can't understand why anyone would want to remove the catalytic converter
on a late model car. The fuel savings would be negligible at best, and
converters are covered by a 5 year warranty on all new cars.

That was an impressive post. You obviously know what your talking about.
I'm not knowledgable about catalytic converters and only go on here-say of
other people - my husband being the main one. Through him, I heard of many
that take them off and swear they get better milage and better preformance.
We know one guy that works in a auto shop and he says so many new models do
not function properly with the converters. Also, another guy that is a car
dealer - he said the new Thunderbirds sit on the lot because they won't pass
emissions testing with our new laws. I'm not against smog control of this
sort, but I don't think it's fair that we pay the prices we do for autos and
they don't function right from the factory. We ought to be able to at least
go three years without worrying about emissions testing with a new car.

ARIZONA CITIZENS CONCEALED WEAPONS ISSUE
You may be aware that Representative Dave Carson (542-5412) of
Prescott introduced a bill that would allow Arizona citizens to carry
concealed weapons. A permit would be issued after the required class
hours had been completed and the permit fee paid.
The bill was voted on last week (May 22-25) by the Arizona House Of
Representatives and passed. The bill now goes before the Arizona State
Senate and may be voted on as early as the first part of this week, May
29-June 2.
If you agree with this bill, to be able to receive a legal permit to
carry a concealed weapon in the state of Arizona, it is VERY important for
you to call our state Senators right away!!! A call to each Senator listed
below would be most effective. Even if they are not from your district,
their vote WILL directly effect whether you can or cannot get a concealed
weapons permit.
Call each office and tell them that you are in favor of the
concealed weapons bill (S.1272) and urge the Senator to vote "YES"!!!
CALL ASAP!! The vote may be early this week!
(Phone numbers in next post of all AZ. District Senators)
