I have noticed that in the almost two years I've been on Apollo that JT
often takes different sides at different times. I.E. the abortion issue
At the beginning, he professed to not really knowing how he felt and then
went on and fought tooth and nail against it! HE's a good BBSer! So are you.
I guess at times I do the same thing as JT does - I'm not that strong as I
sound against Beauty contests - but if it raises Paul and JT dander, then
I'll continue. Ha. See you later. Give 'um' hell! -=*) ANN (*=-

        Rod, if time or age does not exist then why do we worry about being
late to jobs or social events? Also if age or time are misnomers then what
is the correct term to use?

 1:        Time is a man-made concept.  We use it for communicating with each 
 2:other.  It comes in handy and is especially good for appointments or knowing
 3:when to be at work.  But in the vastness of space, of which we are a part,

 1:Thanks for the offer.  The 'Great Apollo Debate on Illegal Drugs would look 
 2:nice in laser.     I have thus far given away about 90 copies.  I have 
 3:received very favorable reactions.  People are expressing interest in 
 4:computers and modems.  They like the idea.  I am going to be mailing some 
 5:more here and there in the near future.  They are a trip to make.  In order 
 6:to do 20 copies, I have to send 210 11X17 sheets of paper through my copier 
 7:twice then collate and staple.  I am going to see about getting 1000 copies 
 8:made in the coming weeks.  I hope we have another good debate on a topic 
 9:that is of importance.
10:        The current debate is a 'play-around' one.  It makes no difference 
11:to me one way or another.  I am just taking my current tact because Paul is 
12:taking the other.  Oh well.  Who is $ Robert Knee, ha ha.

Your problem has become all too apparent Ann. You can't see the forest
because the trees keep getting in the way.
My one post to you on this subject made far more sense than all of your
half-cracked arguments against one portion of beauty contests collectively.
 Do you have any idea how much money is spent in preparing little girls and
young ladies for the express purpose of entering and winning these contests?
First, if a little girl is pretty and shows potential, even if only in the
eyes of her parents, she is sent to dancing school, then charm school, then
modeling school. After this, if the potential has developed into something
more substantial, there are many hours of very costly private tutoring in
such things as poise, grace, charm, general intelligence, etc. Actually,
aside from well planned diet and exercize programs designed to accentuate
the beauty that is already there, little time or effort is spent on the
beauty angle. Most of that is natural, a gift from God if you will.
You really ought to put your obvious biases aside one of these days and
watch a Miss America pageant from beginning to end with a balanced eye AND a
balanced mind. THere is much, much more to it than a parade of bodies in
swimsuits.

pointing out that physical appearance is but one part of the whole, and no
ravishing beauty that couldn't display the rest of the qualities ever won

You bet your sweet bippy I get attention driving that car and that is one of
the top reasons I have it. But my husband and I worked hard and long to get
in a position to get that car. I wash & wax it - vacuum it - take care of it

The only merits of that post is the knowledge that your arm has grown quite
long - from patting yourself on the back so much! 
Doesn't it strike you as a little sick to prep all those young girls with
dancing school, private tutoring etc. etc. just so they can parade around in
swim suits and try to win a beauty contest? They do not do this with men, so
why women? As I mentioned, I've never seen a Mr. America contest and I doubt
that many other people have either. But I'll bet that Mr. America contestant
are body builders and are not just born that way! 
Wouldn't those parents that push their kids like you mentioned, be better
off pushing them in a real career direction to survive in the real world
instead of something as frivolous as a B.C.? Things have changed. Now most
women must go out there and work to help support their familys and keep a
roof over their heads. Chances are, she is the only parent bringing money

Wrong! I remember when B.C. were just that and nothing else. There were no
talents involved. They had an evening dress and bathing suit judging and
that was it. In the late fifties I recall watching the miss Universe contest
and there was one woman that was obviously the favorite of the audiance -
mine too. She wasn't any more beautiful than the rest, but her personality
really shown above them all.They took measurements in those days and because
one of her shoulders was 1/4 inch lower than the other, she came in second.

        If God were to judge a beauty contest, He'd, no doubt, pick the one
who looked the most like a cave woman.  Why, you ask?  Well, since
homo-sapiens were created in His image and since man was created quite a
while ago, then god must look like a cave-person.  Makes perfectly good
sense to me.  How about you?
        These tall, thin, women who enter the current contests wouldn't last
a good fort-night in the real world.  They'd starve to death trying to
pull-their-weight.  Send a few to the Ukraine and watch them die like flies.
These pretties are just show PIECES (no pun intended).  Pretty to look at,
nice to hold, but good for little else.  -Rod

        Rod, you have a very high opinion of yourself, yet a very low
opinion of every one else.  Are all self centered atheists like this?
From what I understand it is very tough to get into a national Beauty
contest and I can only gather you are a sexist pig when you think someone
thin and beautiful can't take care of themselves in what you call the real
world.  What does "good looks" have to do with survival?  I am sure if you
told some of these girls that to their faces, they would knock the snot out
of you.  You are either very brave, or very stupid.  I choose the later!

        Well, I guess it helps in the competition if the girls are willing
to let loose of some of their wares.  A sample here and there can usually
get someone into the finals.
        Besides, as it is often with males, the ones who could be considered
ugly (I hate to use that word), are most often (nerds) the ones who have
excelled in intelligence.  The pretty, muscle boys, for the most part, have
little upstairs, except perhaps a football game or two dancing in their
heads.  The steroids dance in their veins.
        The females I have met who could be considered the equilivent of the
male nerds can out think and are more congenial, less high-strung, than the
ones who are groomed to win beauty pagents.  To actually marry one of these
contestants would be like asking for a life of servitude instead of help.
No thanks, I'll take brains over beauty anyday although I did manage to get
both.  Thanks for the compliment.   -Rod
