Maybe this cold fusion thing will end up being feasible. I might even trade
in my Vega wagon for a fusion powered car.

Cliff recommended Paul not read your story??? That is ridiculas! If
anything, mine would offend Paul, not yours.
Why do I think you will win? (1.) It was very well written and completely
understandable - not like Dean's for instance. (2) It was closer to being a
'real' story. (and I'm not talking length here) (3) You put the characters
of Apollo in their places to perfection and you stuck to the thyme of our
posts. (4) Your ending was excellent and a surprise, like a good story
should have. I liked all the posts and they had their merits but I think
when Gary mentioned that only one of the stories was professionaly written,
I'm positive he meant yours, even though he didn't say who he meant. I don't
know who is going to vote for the winner, but if it's Cliff, I'm sure Dean
will win because he really seemed to like it and it wasn't 'controversial'!

The only reason I read Ann's and Dean's was because they were recommended
to me by Cliff, who said that I was part of them.
As a rule, time does not permit me more than to log on, read and respond to
messages and get on with other things. I'm sure that they're all excellent,
but I'm no judge. Congratulations to all contestants. If you can write

You could teach a three foot person to beat a 7 foot person at basketball.
Especially if the 7 footer is Manute Bol. Look at Spud Web. He's the
shortest player in the NBA, but also one of the most outstanding ones. YOU
are taller than Spud is, Cliff.

If women are used OUT OF CONTENT in an advertizement such as I've mentiond
in previous posts, our freedoms are diminished considerably because we will
not be taken seriously in other fields! I hardly think that a beauty contest
winner will ever be thought of by men as anything other than that regardless
of her mental capabilities or ambitions. I've met SO many men that think
women were put her for just their enjoyment and nothing else and they treat
them as so! What is the purpose of a beauty contest? It's certainly for the
men and not women! I can picture this winner going into a career and trying
to make her way to the top and all along, she is NOT taken seriously because
she won a stupid beauty contest! Woman speak of harassment all the time in
their jobs as it is. Can you see a B-contest winner taking up driving truck
for a living? She might be able to drive that truck as good as any of her
male co-workers, but that won't matter in the least to the drooling guys
that want a conquest with a legitimate Beauty contest winner! BUT - she
deserves this harassment. After all, she took off her clothes and paraded
around so the audiance and the judges can see every square in of her body!
Come on James. Would you take her seriously other than trying to make a
conquest? -=*) ANN (*=-

I agree that everything has to do with sex, but lets spread it around a bit
and have more males exposing themselves --- OOPS! I mean showing more of
themselves --- OOPS! I personally WOULD look at a commercial of a guy in a
bikini pouring Toilet bowl cleaner down the stool - but only IF he was
perfect, air brushed and had a body like Arnies! Then I would figure that
ALL men should look like this and I want one! Then I would divorce my
husband because he doesn't look like that and start searching for one that
did. I would find many that did, but they wouldn't want to appear in a
toilet bowl commercial wearing a bikini and be exploited! So I would grow
old alone, my dream flushed down a toilet!

I agree, bikini clad woman in a toilet cleanser commercial is stupid
as are a lot of other ads with sexual innuendos. But there would be a lot
of women without jobs if this was cut out. But I don't have to complain
because when I watch tv, I scan. When a commercial comes on to break up a
show, I look for another channel that has something interesting and I may
never get back to the show I was watching. Besides I usually just watch
movies on the cable channels. They have their own way of doing a commercial
in that they will show a box of Kellog's Bran Flakes on the kitchen table or
another product they were paid to show. I like that method better.

So, your objection to beauty contests and the like is that (for example)
winners will not be taken seriously as truck drivers? In the first place, I
do not know of too many beauty contestants who seek careers as truck
drivers. Most, I think, want to be models or actresses or the like, and
being a beauty contestant fits quite well into those career plans.
Imagine if Ronald Reagan decided to become a truck driver? Do you think
he'd be treated just like any other truck driver? I doubt he'd be able to
live down the fact that he's a former president. Does this mean that the
existence of the office of President diminishes our freedoms? I think not.
Also, what makes you think prostitutes or porn stars will be taken any more
seriously as truck drivers than will beauty contest winners? Finally, your
claim seems to be that beauty contests and the like somehow diminish the
freedom of all women, not just those who participate in them. If being
taken seriously as a truck driver is the standard of freedom, what evidence
do you have that a ban on beauty contests would cause women in general to be
taken more seriously as truck drivers?
(A side note: I do not think of women as "conquests," and I think men who do
are morally deficient. I do, however, enjoy looking at beautiful women, and
I don't think this means I take women any less seriously.)
