Experts are people who know a great deal about very little, who go
along learning more and more about less and less until they know practically
everything about nothing. Lawyers, on the other hand, are people who know
very little about many things and keep learning less and less about more and
more until they know practically nothing about everything. Judges are people
who start out knowing everything about everything but end up knowing nothing
about anything because of their constant association with experts and
lawyers.
After we grow up, we stop believing in Fairy Tales - except those told by
Politicians!
People who are always taking care of their health are like misers hoarding
up a treasure which they never have spirit enough to enjoy.

Like most dead boards, the problem is not exactly one of interest. The
problem is that most people won't start a brand new topic; they just comment
on the current conversation. If there's nothing to reply to, you get no
replies.
So here's a topic: I ordered the Universal Item Selector, a program
which replaces the original item selector on the ST. I loved the demo
version and heard great reviews of it, so I ordered it. The disk arrived
DOA -- it was completely unformatted. I contacted Mike Linsday (ST-INFORMER
on GEnie) and asked him what to do. He said to toss the disk and send in
the warranty card. In the meantime, he would send off a new copy. Two days
later, the new (and operational) disk arrived. I am very pleased with it
and with the way I was treated by it's producers. For $15.95, it's worth
every bit.

I was talking to the owner of Enertek today, and he said that the Department
of Defense may limit or actually exclude all non DOD use of Ammonium
Percholorate rocket engines.
That plant in Henderson was 50% of the national output. This will probably
cause all AP rocket engines to go up in price, or to make them unavailable.

The rocket is almost finished. It just needs a little more epoxying, and
then a paint job in the middle of the week. Cliff did an excellent job of

Cliff or Rod should be able to bring an ice chest, so you can bring your own

meet at the launch site, not at a dark deserted shopping center (as
previously reported).
I will post a map on Tuesday night. If anyone has any 'small' (under G

Sure, we can meet somewhere if you wish. (I had originally thought that the

meet somewhere other than the launch site.)
But we can't get to the site too late if we want to get everything done
before it gets too hot. We might be able to bring a tarp and some poles,
so we can have a little shade.
We could meet at the Denny's up by Cliff's (Bell and the freeway, Smitty's

I want to state again, that you *don't* have to contribute to come. Of

that really wants to come. If Nikki would make sandwiches, that would be
GREAT! I could probably give you and Nikki a ride if you want. I don't
think that there will be that much 'desert' driving though. Actually this
isn't even a desert area. It is a large area that has been leveled off for

.. but I don't agree. You said you wouldn't want to take a chance even if it

one in 100 million! Probablly the same odds as getting it from another
person. Over reaction! This father was brain washed into thinking there was
a real danger here. The government has done a good job again to justify the
money! As far as the dog staying home for those 7 days - what difference
would 7 days make if the dog had rabies? The child would still have the
shots regardless. Instead of the city taking the dog - they could require
the owners, at the end of 7 days to prove the dog had a vet check up and
doesn't have rabies. That's all they are going to do anyway. By the way -
the last time I lived in California - they let you keep the dog in
quarenteen at home! They just found out another scam to get our money by
preying on our fears in Arizona is all. AND - no one is going to take their
dog somewhere else to be tested and if it's positive, not tell anyone! Who's
going to keep a dog around that has been tested positive for rabies? Besides
- I guess I really didn't understand your statement fully?! Also - what has
rabies got to do with a dog licence? They would have let him stay home if he
had one. See you =*--ANN--*=

From EDN, April, 28, 1988:
Software Package Inoculates Disks Against Computer Viruses
After one of its computers became infected with a
destructive virus program (sometimes called a Trojan horse
program), Sophco Inc (Boulder, CO, (303)444-1542) added an
inoculation module to its $195 Protec software-protection
package for computers running MS-DOS version 3.0 and higher.
An engineer at the company had downloaded a seemingly
innocuous program (an X-rated animated graphics program)
from an electronic bulletin board to a computer's hard disk.
That program contained an infectious module that installed
delayed-action routines into executable software on the hard
disk. Later, the routines destroyed the files on the disk.
Protec version 3.2 can safeguard your programs with a
protective virus program called Vaccinate, which you install
in your executable files with another program called
Syringe. The Protec system also includes a decoy program
called Canary that you can use to test suspect software.
You include Canary on a floppy disk along with the dubious
software and run the suspect program. If the Canary program
"dies" after the suspect program finishes, you know there's
a virus program on your disk. Sophco has also initiated the
Center for Computer Disease Control, which will act as a
clearing house for information about such antisocial
software. - Steve H. Leibson

A family down the block from us has a dog that runs loose all the time. It
got ahold of one of our cats and hurt it seriously. When we had the pound
come out after the dog the people hid it and claimed they never had any such
dog. They probably knew that they would have been financially liable for the
damages as well as fines and having the dog taken away. I suspect that they
would have done the same thing if it had been one of our children instead of
a cat, the potental damages would have been much greater. That is why
a dog should be impounded for testing. The possibility of a child having
to undergo rabies testing outweighs seven days inconvenience to the owner
of a dog that bites if you ask me.

In Vietnam U.S. forces sought to keep the enemy's large units away from
populated areas where they could be attacked with maximum firepower without
endangering civilians. This worked to a large extent, but the media's
response was to ridicule operations where remote bases were defended in
order to protect the rest of the country. They made it sound like our troops
were being sacrificed for worthless terrain when they were in fact defeating
the enemy's invading forces overwhelmingly and at a safe distance from the
cities in most cases. If this kind of half-witted and ill-advised reporting
had been allowed in World War Two we would probably have been politically

A dog should never be allowed to roam at will. If a dog bites you and then
disappears, you, by law must report it and take the shots if the dog isn't
found. (Personally, if it bit me and the dog seemed healthy and only bit me
because I tried to pet it or something, then I would not report it! I would
prefer to take my chances than have those awful shots) IF it attacted me or
acted sick - then I would. I just feel that this whole thing is over
reacting to the fear of rabies. My daughter and kids went to visit their dog
yesterday and took him a 'care' package of food and a favorite blanket. On
the way out, they saw this tiny kitten in a cage with a sign that said
"Rabies quaranteen'. My daughter ask a guy working there what the problem
with this kitten was - seems a neighbor kid came over to see the kittens
(invited) - got to playing with it rough and it bit said kid and drew blood.
He ran home bawling and his father came over and said he was going to have
the kitten quarenteened for rabies and he called the authorities. Don't you
think this is a tad bit of over reacting? How could that kitten, that was
only about a month old and still nursing, have contacted rabies? He had
never been out of the house yet! I think all of this is insane. See you

In my case, I had done nothing to to excite the dogs (there were four or
five of them in a pack). I was walking on the other side of a residential
street, and these dogs came out of an open gate. They crossed the street
and started following me. I had heard that running just excites them, so I
just keep walking. They came up behind me, not acting threatening (no
growling, etc.). I was saying something to the effect of "nice doggies; go
home, go home" when one of them, a German Sheppard, chomped me in the rear.
I'm glad I was wearing jeans and not shorts. As it was, I had to have a
couple stitches and a tetnus shot. It was eventually quarrantined, and
tested okay.
BTW, Ann, if an owner discovers that their dog has rabies after it has
bit someone, he probably won't keep it, but he sure as h$ll will do
everything he can to keep this from becomming known, for fear of a suit.
Maybe you are a responsible owner, Ann, but there are too many people
that consider their dog more important than anyone it might have attacked,
and will do everything they can to cover up for the dog, and yes, even
hide it if it has rabies.

Judging from those statistics, by the year 2004 the law abiding citizens
will number less than 1% and if so, I'm sure 'Mobsters' would have long
ago imprisoned the good and set the bad free.
So much for numbers.

First off.... Guns have nothing to do with drugs...
A plane full of people carring 'HAND-GUNs' is less likely to get hi-jacked.
(Have you knoticed where these big crimes against the public happen.... Yes,
where hand-guns are banned!
A plane full of people on drugs would just say "Like WoW" and then
OD.
A hand gun can give you a fighting chance and being on drugs you
would have no chance.
Yes, there are idiots with guns that shoot road signs... there are
idiots that drive cars that run over people too, so do you think Tom will
want a ban on cars? After all, more people die from cars than from guns in
this country.
I own a machine shop as well as a computer store. The point here is
I can make a gun and even the ammo... I could even do a one time plastic
gun if I wanted too (single shot then toss).
And LAST....
Geesh, the cross from the ground means "DEATH" and was the death
sign long before Christ. I have seen them on the way to Vegas, and not once
did I think it ment Christian... Now if they were neat little "Scull an
Cross Bones" I would pick up a few of them (steal it) and so would many
people. No one will bother with two crossed sticks...eccept a funny Mormon.
If they were just plain sticks... I would not knotice them along with all
the other sticks along the road. The Star of David is the Dodge Brothers
emblem, but a youngster like Tom would not know that.

Welcome back, even if I do not agree with your ideas.
I see that freedom of speech is only affordable to the rich

Good Luck, and I hope it works out for you.

Most dog owners are at least fairly responsible citizens, who care for their
pets and do not allow them to run loose for any reason.
With one exception, all dogs that are running loose should be caught and
contained for a period of time, and the owner fined. Dogs running loose ona
a continual basis should be shot and the owner hel responsible for the cost
of disposition of the body.
The exception is pit bulls, all of which should be shot on sight, contained
or not. There is absolutely no reason whi even one of those killing machines
should be allowed to exist.

As nearly as I know nothing has happened to Wayne West. I've not spoken
with him for a couple of months, but I've not heard from others that
anything has happened to him. I'll try to find his phone number and call
him. Let you know what happens.

Steve,
Terry Warneke and I did discuss the random distribution of people in a
category by "sun sign." I had brought with me an analysis of all Presidents
nd Vice Presidents of the United States and found the distribution, for both
tropical and sidereal zodiacs, to be random. Off the air Terry said that
did not surprise him, but that, in other aspects, I would see the men were
very much alike.
In the debate I would have to say I came out on the losing end, but I did
manage to get him to say "I don't know what makes it work." The other high
point, excepting the places where I had the hostess laughing to the point
where she had to cover her mouth, I also got Warneke to say life begins with
the first breath, then I asked how non living entities could be effected by
the stars...

Yeah - you are right. Unfortunately, a lot of people arn't responsible for
their dogs and let them roam. That REALLY sounded like a scarey situation
for you and I guess you were lucky it wasn't worse. When we lived in Taylor
- up in the White Mountains - no one kept their dogs at home - guess because
it was ranch land - lots of wide open spaces - but the dogs would form packs
and roam the ranches, killing sheep, calves and chickens. Even one of my
little darlings joined the pack and I could not do a thing about it because
he never came back so we could tie him up - but we saw him everyday. Think
some rancher shot him eventually! This dog was raised as a pampered pet too
and had spent his life in the house & a fenced yard. I really feared these
packs - they had no record of attacking people, but when they came even
close to the property, I went into the house until they were gone even
though my baby was one of them.
I hope that what you said about the Pound vs the Humane Society being better
is true. See you =*--ANN--*=

Any drugs in particular?
Should these drugs be available at the local Circle-K, or by
prescription, or...?
