If you want to be witness the historic 9.5 seconds of film, be at Rod's
house at 6:30 PM this evening (today is Sunday, for those of you who aren't
sure). I'll bring my projector, but I'm sure Dean's is better than the one I
have, so bring it along, Dean.

You are speaking of Hobby Bench in PV mall. It is owned by Lee Piester,
owner and founder of the original Centuri Engineering. Lee and a few other
people are also launch a 'medium' power line of engines and kits, named
Enertek.

They carry a pretty good line of kits, but they always seem to be at full
retail, or even a little more. Lee loves his profits. Hobby stores are
just dwindling and dwindling. Especially the rocket sections.

You might actually just get some body tubing and nose cones and custom build
your own. They do have a good selection of tubing and such. You might also
look at the LOC (Lots of Crafts) kit selection. They aren't quite as
fancily packaged as the Estes, but are pretty good. They have a couple of
'medium' powered kits for $9-$15 each. Their big 'high' power kits run
$30-$300.

If you need help in the store, ask for Scott Branche. He's pretty
knowledgeable.

Date: 05/21/88 Time: 03:26:27

The 8mm film has been developed. I personally haven't viewed it yet, but
I've been informed that the first two seconds in the flight were fine. Then
there seemed to be a flash of some kind. A couple of things could have
happened. The most likely is first:

The epoxy I used on the motor mount softened under the high heat of the
engine. The motor mount moved forward, and part of the body tube seperated
from the motor mount.

Or, the engine 'hicupped' at that point.

I think we should have a GT at some time soon, so everyone that wants can
view all the tapes, and the film. Dean said he has a projector, so we will
have to find a time that he can be there. (Unless we want to hold the film
up to the light.)

Also, when the payload section hit the ground, it knocked the on/off switch
to the off position. But at least we have the first 9.5 seconds of the
flight.

(The rocket definitely seemed stable, although it did have some spin on it.
Ron Schultz from LOC seems to think that the epoxy is the problem.)

I'll be brief and give you my opinion. I smoke because I want to and enjoy
it! I will gladly adnit to it being an addiction, but it is asinine to
put it in the same catagory as 'hard stuff'. That's like lumping Marijuana
in with Heroin. Lets say - it is an addiction that I enjoy. I have no fears
or guilt about smoking. I am a considerate smoker and think about others
when they are around. As fas as all the stuff that's printed about tobacco -
I believe only about a forth of it and no more. Why? Because we don't get to
compare the other side of it. It is a fact that most light or heavy smokers
do NOT DIE OF LUNG CANCER. Yet, we never hear about that. How about the
people that do die of it that never smoked or even lived around a smoker?
How about the people that have smoked for years, quit for 30 years and still
die of lung cancer? Statistic wise, cancer is an old person's disease.
Wouldn't we then still die of cancer if smoking was completely outlawed? And
James W. - it is ridiculous to believe that none smokers add 30 years to
to their lives by not doing it. That is a classic example of 'over reacting'
don't you think? Do all of you really think that if there was no smoking,
drinking, drugs, eggs, butter, estrogen, carcinigens, vitimine A, fats etc.
etc. or anything that is supposed to harm you in this field - that we'd live
forever or something? =*--ANN--*=

True Story..... No Hype!
My uncle Bob (age/in his 50s) was a smoker. He did not smoke as heavy
as Ann smokes, but he sounds like Ann in his remarks about smoking. "I
enjoy it and I don't believe half the crap they say about tobacco, it's all
hype!" Well, a few years ago he was in the doctors office with a problem...
no not cancer, but he was having a hard time breathing. After an extended
examination, the Doctor said, "One of your lungs is collapsing and if you do
not quit smoking today..... you will not see your son graduate from High
School." My Uncle Bob was very proud of his son, and it was only about a
year more till he would graduate, so he did indeed quit! Not taper off, but
out and out never picked up a cigarette again. He did live to see his son
graduate, but now runs out of breath very quickly, even from such things
like a short walk. He is constantly saying he wished he had listened to all
the warnings his friends were trying to give him about smoking. He knows
now that the "ENJOYMENT" he got from smoking was not worth it, and if he
could live his life over again, he would NOT smoke!

Smoking does more then just cause cancer, there are other respiratory
ailments that ruin your old age retirement and shorten your life.

This was a true story.... but you will have people that want their
momentary kicks now and "screw the future" attitudes that will say this is
all HYPE. I for one, say you have the right to do whatever you want to
your body, but, what a waste. Get HIGH on LIFE! SYSOP Cliff

Ann, you do not wish to compair tobacco to hard drugs, but most hard
drugs are clean and don't crap up the lungs of a person. Over in Europe
they will show the public cut open lungs of smokers, and they are awfull!
Here you are PROTECTED from the truth more than you think.

Hard drugs can't be compaired to tobacco in another way, Hard Drugs
don't hurt the people around the users, Smoking DOES hurt the Non-smokers
by the way of "Second Hand Smoke".

I like to have my windows open at night here in Phoenix when the
night air is cool. But when my nieghboor 'lights up' on his patio and the
wind is drifting in my direction... it STINKS! It is gross, and I have to
close my windows. If he used CRACK instead, that would not bother my right
for clean air and he would get his high or enjoyment.

Why can't you get high on LIFE? I loved the clean smelling air up
in the mountains of Montana... How refreashing!

Is it is ok to pass a law to require you to
have insurance? On the surface this would appear to
be a debatable subject. Who can find the flaw?
No one can unless they know the basics. We are not
taught the basics because we would be to powerful
for the government to control! If everyone in this
country understood their Constitutional rights they
would not let the government/insurance scam take
root. Everyone would know that this "law" is
clearly Unconstitutional. To require you to have
insurance BEFORE you have been declared financially
irresponsible-BEFORE you can license your car (pay
the taxes on it)-BEFORE you can operate your car-
that is PRIOR RESTRAINT and violates the Constitutional
Limits placed on government which requires Due Process
of Law and mandates that everyone shall be considered
innocent until proven quilty. You may never be involved
in an accident for which you would be liable for damages.
To enforce such a rule would violate the basic precept
of the Constitution. California courts struck down such
efforts as being "in conflict with the Constitution"
almost as fast as law enforcement officers tried to
demand that drivers show proof of insurance.

prepared for a full emergency when a private pilot radioed

Ann, My uncle Bob did not get FAT after quitting the smoke habit, in
fact he was fat and has lost a few pounds. He also states the air smells
better and the food tasts MUCH better.
Tonight we went to Dairy Queen after seening the "Special Advance
Preview" of Short Circuit II. After sitting down at an outside table a lady
walked up and sat at the next table....not to eat Ice Cream, but to smoke.
It was so awfull, we got up and left the table area to eat on the other side
of the parking lot. A person can't even go out to enjoy Ice Cream without
getting smoke blown in their face. Do smokers realize what they do? Bob
told me you don't realize how rude (even if they don't realize it) smokers
are till you quit smoking yourself.
Smoking is not 'getting high on life', it's just a 'crutch'.
It's nice to enjoy something to make oneself feel good, but not when you
NEED it to make yourself feel good.

The US of A is losing millions of dollars per day by not
legalizing
drugs. The system could be set up the same way as alcohol, the kids
will
still be able to get what they want but they can now. At least this
country
would profit from the sale and not a foreign nation.
I actually think that drug use will diminish if legalization
occurs
because it will take some of the mystic from it. Alcohol is legal
for me to
purchase but I stay the hel away from it because I know what it does
to me
and I could buy heroin anytime I want but I have never had to urge
to try
it. The same goes for 'crack', I know people who have used it and I
am told that it give you a euphoric effect that last about 20 minutes
per use and that this effect is the greatest feeling one can
experience but I have no desire to try that either.
I don't see how legalizing drugs will hurt this nation but
will give some out of work farmers something to grow. Our court
systems will be cleared up overnight and prisons will be nearly
emptied out. There would still be penalities for those who 'drive
under the influence', just as there is with alcohol.
I honestly believe that with the legalization of marijuana
that alcohol abuse will diminish once people try it and compare. I
used to drink in the sixties and I was really getting into it but when
I was given a 'joint', I quit drinking, totally.
