The Ruger 22 is a well-made gun. Unfortunately, the 9mm is not nearly as
well assembled. Perhaps it's just perceived quality -- for example, the
slide just doesn't feel right, and the body of the gun looks like a real
cheap casting. The Taurus PT99AF (the model that I own) is about $350,
maybe a little less if you shop around.
I asked Peter about JT's whereabouts yesterday. As far as he knows, he
should be back in Washington. He says he's going to give him a call to find
out what's going on.

or something! Ha. -=*) ANN (*=-

Thanks for the kind words. Of course, I'm accused of being negative - but in
my opinion, I'm just 'calling it like it is' - especially regarding the body
and growing old. Truly, most of the time I am an 'up' person and do see all
the good stuff in this life, but I don't play ostrich with the bad either!
Daryl can talk all he wants to about going to those horrible nursing homes
to cheer up the aged, but it is a terrible experience no matter how
he covers it up with talk of being kind, considerate etc. I wonder what luck
he has chit chatting with some one that is sitting there drooling and
shitting their pants and looking at him with 'nothing' in their eyes! Jason,
the Terminator, and the like are certainly more kinder in what they do to
their victoms than life itself does to it's victoms! -=*) ANN (*=-

I would suspect that an atheist would be more afraid of death than a
Christian. For, to that atheist, death (in his/her mind) culminates in total
lack of existance after death. No more. Nothing. Nada. Zippo. Am I not right
on this? Of course I will not elaborate on what I believe will happen to
that person, for someone will probably start whimpering and complaining
about what a "meanie God is" and "gee, isn't God terrible?"

I agree. If my illness is terminal, and my NATURAL days are limited as a
result, then let me live those days naturally, and then let me pass on to
better things. I don't want some "well-intentioned" doctor tying me down to
this earth when I am not supposed to be.

No, not at all. No matter what I or anyone believes does not make
it so. I don't know what happens at physical death. I have no idea
whatsoever.
But, if there is absolutely nothing, then that would be so simple to
handle, it ain't even funny. Hell, if there is nothing for all of eternity
then let me die now. Why come in the first place. What is the big deal?
What is a life, especially in this place.
I think it is entirely possible that something exists that could be
called a Universal Mind. In other words, it appears that in the violent
energy that exists in the universe that some sort of intelligence has come
about. It exists on all planes although on this human plane the thought
cycle is inhibited by electrical impulses passing through a heavy atmosphere
of water vapor and that which we call flesh. We aren't very bright in other
words.
But take this away and in the clear space of the cosmos this
electrical intelligence may be more together. Perhaps it is where all
electrical impuses end up unless trapped in a whirling planetary system
where it manifests itself into that which is possible, the human or other
animal form.
There is more relatively clear space in the cosmos than heavy matter
so perhaps once I can free myself from this planet I will be able to have
more fun.
I fear that which is called death, NOT AT ALL. I welcome it, seeing
how I am some what of a curious adverturer. Sometimes I can hardly wait.

The difference between drug abuse, and child porno, murder, etc.,
can be summed up as "consenting adults." Child pornography and murder
involve people that are not adults, or are not consenting, or both. I would
not favor legalizing drugs for children, anymore than booze is legal for
children now.

on gun usage for defense versus accidental injury?

I suggest you pick up a copy of any gun magazine advertising fully automatic
weapons for sale, and give one of the dealers a call. Or better yet, call
Mandel's in Scottsdale. He is probably the biggest full-auto dealer in town.

If "usefull ways of dealing with crime are available", then how come the
gangs are getting such a foothold and growing so large and dangerous, mostly
on the profits from the sale of illegal drugs?
Id "useful ways of dealing with crime are available", then why are there
areas in this best of all possible countries where honest people must fear
for their lives every time they step out of their doors?
If "useful ways of dealing with crime are available", how come police in
some parts of our country have to go to work in body armor?
How come Dean?

While I am really sorry to see you leave your post after so many years, I

While Sandy and I obviously disagree on some issues, I'm sure that there

The main reason police wear body armor is less opportunity to get
hurt when they bully people. They are PIGS in action. And the newspapers
blow stories out of proportion all the time. If they say 1000 gang members,
this translates into 20 gang members. Get the picture? Twenty gang members
does not a story make. -BOB

I didn't cite figures for gun usage as opposed to accidents, I pointed out
that such statistics are flawed and useless because of the very nature of
the activities involved. I have seen some studies in the past in which gun
owners were asked if they had ever relied upon a gun for their safety in any
way. The result was that many had and that very very few had reported it if
they had any choice. I don't remember where or when I saw this, but it makes
sense.

I said that effective ways of dealing with crime were available, I did not
say they were being used. Enforcing existing laws and keeping violent
offenders off the street and in custody works, but the criminal justice
system is not functioning effectively in this area. This is partly due to
the prisons and jails being filled with people who are not violent offenders
and partly due to other problems in the judicial system. Don't expect any
relief from this as long as a doomed 'war on drugs' is our top national
priority in law enforcement.
Body armor saves more police officers from injury in traffic accidents
than it does in shootings. It is probably an excellent idea for anyone who
drives a lot as part of their job, but especially anyone who gets into the
occasional high speed chase.

I think I love this guy. Many people go become cops because they have an
inner need to be a symbol of authority. Usually they are duds at home. I
know because my father is a cop. He is a bully on the job and at home. The
only way to change it is to make the top cop a good person. He reflects
upon the entire departmental attitude. Right now in Phoenix we have a crook
and a mental defective as head. My father told me this in one of his weaker
moments. It was while he was wearing my mothers pants. Nancy

You ask what the pay is for being SYSOP (sis-op) of this system
and you want the job. Interesting.
Well, you wouldn't become monetarily rich but you would learn
how to spell, format, and type. You will learn things about yourself
that will make you a better person in the long run. You will be able
to correct flaws in yourself with the help of others.
And speaking of others, this is the best part. You will get to
know people who, if you hadn't met, would have left your life very
shallow, indeed. Yes, I would say that being the SYSOP of this fine
BBS will most definitely change your entire life, for the better.
