JUSTICE FOR RONNIE BARLOW
Who: You (and your friends)
What: Civil Rights Protest & Rally
When: Tuesday, July 3, 12 Noon to 12:45
Where: Maricopa County Courthouse Plaze
2nd Ave. & Jefferson, Downtown Phoenix
Ronnie Barlow shot a man in self defense. His attacker had a long, violent
criminal record, including assault, and child-molesting (he was white).
Ronnie Barlow had no criminal record (he is black). Ronnie Barlow should
have gotten a medal. Instead, he got convicted of second-degree murder!
Justice denied to one person is justice denied to each of us! Celebrate the
4th of July and observe our freedoms by being there to support and protect
our rights! Next time, it could be you. You could go to jail for defending
yourself. Ronnie Barlow deserves a new trial, a fair trial. He needs you.
Come help him.

DeVry: As someone else has already said, Valley employers do not think too
highly of them.
ASU: The size of their classes is crushing, the competition is overwhelming.
My suggestion: Get a 4-year degree in Computers (or whatever) at Grand
Canyon University. Sure, it's somewhat expensive, but it's a small school
with an excellent curriculum, good instructors, a friendly environment. But
maybe the VA won't pay for it, because it is a private, Southern Baptist
university. Maybe they will. The main reason I suggest it, is that you
will not drown in a sea of students. Give it some thought. I went there,
and I've done OK with my C.S. degree.
P.S. Be aware, though, that there are a few employers in the Valley,
notably Honeywell, that do not automatically consider a C.S. degree from
Grand Canyon University equivalent to a C.S. degree from ASU. My sister,
who also received her C.S. degree from Grand Canyon, is not a full-fledged
engineer at Honeywell, although they seemed to accept my credentials without
any hesitation. I guess they discriminate on a case-by-case basis, although
they may not do so in 4 years, when you are likely to graduate, from
anywhere.
Anyway, congratulations, and good luck, and let us know what you find out,
and what you decide. -Michael Kielsky "I'm the NRA"

I noticed the few times I watched it - it was more true science fiction the
the original. But I guess it boils down to - it isn't Star Trek with out my
beloved Captian Kurk and Spock! Ha. I like seeing them older in the films -
but even that is kind of crazy. Who's gonna give a star ship over to an aged
crew like that - especially fatty Scotty! But I luv um! -=*) ANN (*=-

So are you saying that someone who is experiencing a period of sadness is
having a less-than-important emotional experience? "Sorrow is better than
laughter, because a sad face is good for the heart."

So, you are saying that a tree's life is important enough that you would
take an active part in the saving of it...but only as long as the situation
never actually presents itself.
Gotcha.

It was probably a good bit hotter in the 12th and 13th centuries than it is
now--we know they used to grow grapes in the South of England back then, but
they can't today--too cold. Global warming? Sure, but it will be followed
in a few centuries by global cooling, then global warming, then global
cooling, etc. and etc.

Roger, didn't you read my post on CarolCom about that episode? My favorite
of all time (gee, doesn't that scare you?). Maybe CarolCom went down before
you saw the message.

Jeff:
Hope you don't mind another Trekkie barging in, but this is the
prediction I made on another board:
OK, the Enterprise's deflector dish is not powerful enough to blow up the
Borg ship--they go back into warp and leave the Enterprise behind. The Borg
encounter the Federation Fleet and are stopped at that point by the combined
power of the Fleet. The Enterprise catches up, and a rescue party beams
aboard the Borg ship. They find Picard, and somehow beam him back to the
Enterpise. Then, the combined Fleet uses their deflector dishes to blow the
Borg out of the sky. Then, Dr. Crusher manages to successfully "de-implant"
the Borg materials from the Captain. Of course, the main problem I see ther
is that if Picard is "attached" to the Borg, he might die when the Borg ship
is destroyed. But, anyway, that would certainly fill an hour episode.
My wife and I were speculating on whether they were going to get rid of
Picard or Reiker--it looked like Reiker at first, but obviously, right now,
Picard is not in the best position. Maybe they do get rid of Picard (the
weapon works and the Borg are blown up) and the rest of the hour episode is
how they develop a way of defeating the Borg without either 1) Q, or 2)
blowing up their own deflector dish everytime they run into a Borg ship.

Jeff, I hate to put a damper on anyone's enthusiasm, but don't be mislead by
what anyone tells you about DeVry or anyother non-accredited Technical
Institute. Major employers, who pay the "lucrative" salaries for systems
analysts, do not hire Tech School grads for anything except aide positions.
Even our janatorial service contracter won't hire them! (joke)
I graduated from a Technical institute 25 years ago. Over the years,
the attitude of indusrty towards current T.S. grads has turned sour. Most
of us have had to go back to school and earn a "real" BS and/or MS in order
to advance. Go to ASU. I repeat. Go to ASU. Do not collect $200, do not
listen to DeVry, Go to ASU!

Maybe that has nothing to do with the overall global temperature, but a
shift in the gulf stream? You do know that that is why England is as
temperate as it is?

The house I live in is rather large (6 bedrooms) and was built in the late
forties. To air condition it would cost near $1,000 a month, I figure.
You are correct though, when humidity starts up the best thing to do is
pinch the water lines to restrict flow and use really good Patton fans
throughout the house. We have shade trees and both the front and rear of
our house has large sun/shade awnings (3 layers on top) to keep the
foundation cooler. I insulated the attics several years ago and that helps
quite a lot.
Actually, over the past several years we have had cooler summers instead of
hotter ones. I also have a duct system in the main house and we vent it to
the outside in the summer.

You gave me 50 years to live. That I do not understand. Did you visit a
fortune teller or something. I could die in the next five minutes. Where
did you come up with this figure or is that what you gave yourself.
Each day I expect to die and when I don't then oh well, I make the best of
it. It is not that I desire to die but knowing full well that it is a real
possibility the thought is certainally no stanger to me.
Somehow I doubt that I will be around in this form in fifty years.

The forest fire in the White Mountains is most unfortunate for the many
people who live there. Too bad that lives were lost in the process as well
as the many homes destroyed.
But looking at the affair from a standpoint of evolution, being detached
and thinking of the next billion or so earth years as a mere drop in the
universal bucket, so to speak, then I can not express surprise.
As I previously stated, "Mother Nature takes no pity or shows any remorse
for her victims." Mother Nature treats all species of animal the same.
She will burn the baby rabbit as well as the baby human. To Her all is
equal in this domain. Nothing is sacred.
But looking at the tragedy from a Christian's viewpoint I have come to
some of the following conclusions. The ones who died in the fire many have
been "born again" and are therefore now in heaven instead of a dingy prison.
They are, no doubt many times better off being with their Father. Besides
they may have been there on drug related crimes or at least the odds say
they were. If they all did not find reward in heaven then surely they
deserved what they got.
The homes that were destroyed was perhaps a sign from God, a message or
perhaps as punishment for a previous deed or just to bring more converts
into the fold. No mortal can fully understand these mysterious ways of the
Lord.
The atheist viewpoint would go something like this. Don't build your
house on a flood plain, over a fault line or too near tall timber because
eventually there will be a fire, a flood and an earthquake. Mother Nature
doesn't give one wit about God's eternal plan and her fangs, somewhere on
this small globe are shown almost daily. Nothing is ever spared not even
the little children who are praying in a church, any church. -Rod

If the SPCA becomes bored with the current method of killing the dogs and
cats then they could relieve that boredom by shaving all of the hair from
the critters and putting them out in the summer weather or wait until winter
and do the same. Arf,arf.
Now that Beauregard Dog is back perhaps he can add his two cents worth.
A firsthand account no doubt.
See you around the universe
