The following letter to the editor is from the Riverside Press-Enterprise:
   "89 Die in New York club fire." It has happened. It is time to stop this
senseless carnage. Thousands die every year in home fires. Thousands more
die from smoking cigarettes which are lit from these semi-automatic "assault
type" cigarette lighters.
   One BIC has the awesome "fire power" to start 500 or more fires. Millions
of acres of our prime National Forests have been reduced to ashes by these
awesome weapons of destruction. They are readily available to little
children, arsonists, gang members, drug dealers, and mentally unstable
persons for as little as fifty cents. There must be immediate registration
of all these weapons now in possession and psychological profiles taken from
future purchasers while a local, state, and FBI check is done. Failure to
register should be a felony.
   Since there is no sporting use for these awesome weapons and the
potential misuse is beyond imagination, we must control them. After all,
wouldn't it be worth it if only one life could be saved?

After reading this barrage of messages I'm left with the feeling
that Middleton wants to be a martyr and instead of justifying his
own public tirade of temper leav. The cowards way out.
Fortunately not all people, even Christians are not like him.
They at least have the intestinal fortitude to face up to opposing
viewpoints, strong opinions contrary to their own and yes, even some
foolish name-calling. But they're here and Middleton's there.
That's what separates the people who really beleive in what they talk
about. Anyone who coughs up as much cowabunga as Middleton is 
definitely not being honest. 
Maturity and real experience will need to be his teacher. The works
of Christ seem to have gone over his head. Rational people know that
rational people who own guns are nothing to be feared. Mike Middleton
seems to fear everyone and anyone who has the right to keep and BEAR arms.
(Not BARE..Cliffy). This type of paranoia is exactly what the media
feeds to the public in huge doses. A reactionaries feast of delight.
Love and peace are what we're searching for all through our lives.
IN one form or another, peace, happiness and love make the ideal world/
universe. The only problem is that we're here to learn the difference
between the peace and war, love and hate, happiness and remorse. A life
without such is an unfulfilled one. You cannot fully enjoy beauty without
knowing what ugly is. Ugly is Mike Middletons heart. Full of judgemental
poison ready to spit in self-righteous squirts into your face if you
**dare** own a gun and "Claim to be a Christian."

  Yes, even I agree that felons and lunatics should not be allowed to
purchase firearms, and that certain dangerous activities like shooting
across a road or inside a city should be forbidden. Of course all these gun
control laws already exist and nobody is arguing for their removal. We do
not all agree that any further gun control is needed. Some of us would favor
more controls on violent criminals and lunatics, but that is not gun
control.
   A person who has not lost his civil rights for cause needs no more gun
control than the laws against endangering others which compare to traffic
laws for cars, and already exist in abundance.

  It seems that he listens to phone conversations about as well as he reads
messages, through a strong filter which protects him from anything which
would challenge his beliefs, while amplifying anything which can be used as
an excuse to go home and pout. He never addressed any argument against gun
control which any of us made, he only tried to make it sound like we were
bad for making them. Gun control advocates seldom do address the reasons why
gun control has and will continue to be a mistake, they just close their
eyes and push ahead.

        Yes, I've read Jesus' teachings, and I believe them. And I believe
He tells me in no uncertain terms that it is a tough life, BUT I am called
to follow the will of God--ten commandments, not ten suggestions.  One of
them says, "Thou shalt not kill," but none of them say thou can't defend
thyself.  The Old Testament, especially (but also the New) is full of
demands that we be strong, and warnings that we'll be persecuted.

  I would like to host a GT to present the APOLLO GT's video compilation. I
would like to do it as soon as it is practical for at least a few people to
attend. I have tapes to return to Mike C. and Cliff, which can be done then
also. Who could make it sometime this weekend? How about next weekend? How
about sometime inbetween? I go on vacation the weekend after next, so I
would like to do it before then.

Re: Videos.  I'd like to be able to see the videos, especially the one of
our 'gun' outing.

Re: Gun Control.  The idea of restricting the law-abiding from obtaining
firearms is ludicrous in a free society.  Measure your freedom by the ease
of obtaining items which, if widely and easily available, might be dangerous
to the government (i.e. firearms, bibles, books, newpapers, etc.).
