Ok, the date and time are set and I am posting a map on the main board. It
will be at 6pm Saturday. If Rod can make it I am sure we won't need any
further departure from reality to provide us with recreation. I consider
alchohol a recreational drug, and that will be allowed, but I am not willing
to risk arrest to stand up for someone else's right to do illegal drugs at
my house. Call me a coward, a henpecked husband, or whatever. I think the
point is really moot with this group anyway, since none of us are
really into drugs (right?).

Maybe we should have another contest and ease the rules a little to
encourage wider participation. We could have one requiring only ONE Apollo
character, no length limit, and only two stipulations regarding content. The
first could be that it would have to be done in the Romantic style (meaning
not a romance story, but a story in which the world is seen as the author
thinks it should be rather than as it is) and the second stipulation could
be that the story must qualify as hard-core pornography.

President took over... I would be first in line to assaassinate the jerk.
Better yet, I will keep things in line by being a Republican.
Holland indeed.... if ya like it so much...go there! No wonder the
Libertarians remain obscure, they are to radical and I can't live with that.
We need a party that supports the idea that every man is responsible for
himself and his actions. We need a government that would stop passing laws
trying to prevent people from doing stupid things to themselves. People in
government should stop setting moral values for us citizens when they can't
even live up to them.

Brains over beauty, why not go for both? A man who is skinny can always work

to employ the population we have now, so why let in more lazy, criminal,
sick, deranged people just looking for handouts. An open border to ANYONE
would do this. And this is just one of my gripes about the Libertarians and

But I do Dean... I agree with more than 90% of the issues of the
Republican party.... However, they don't seem to adhere to them very well,
but then with a Democratic Congress, it may not be their fault. If every
thing went according to the planks of the party, 90% of things would be
fine.
However..... and that is a big however... if I could talk to a
Libertarian about the issues I don't like and get something back besides
double talk, I might switch some day. A lot of GRAND ideas without the
means of obtaining them, mean little to nothing to me.
Parties that promise everything, generaly give nothing and take
everything, as in The Comunist Party, The Socialist (Nazi) Party, etc.

Those positions of the Republican Party which you agree with don't mean a
thing if the Party does not believe in them and intend to do something about
them. In fact, the RepubliCrats on both sides of the imaginary dividing line
believe in nothing but perpetuating themselves in office. They will promise
all sorts of things to get into office, and often hold up the other side as
the enemy to be vanquished, but once the election is over it is business as
usual and they all work the same way and for the same goal.
The thing to remember about our glorious leadership is that image is
everything and promises mean nothing. Remember how George Bush valiently
defended the rights of Americans to own semi-automatic weapons for any
peaceful purpose one day and then turned right around and banned their
importation the next? It was a good image to say that in the first place,
but faced with the need for a tough 'drug crusading' image , that stand went
right out the window. I would rather work through a party which is committed
to liberty and has an agenda founded on straight forward principles than one
committed only to imagery and tenure in office.

How would you propose to make a major change in the political
system? You seem to know all the answers, so how about sharing a few of
them with us. How would you insure that when a candidate runs for office and
makes promises to his constituents, that he keeps them once elected. It
seems very difficult to have one impeached once in office.

We need a party that will stop passing laws to prevent people from doing
stupid things to themselves? Like forcibly removing babies from their wombs?
Trashing their minds with narcotics? I think we need to draw a line
somewhere. Drug abuse affects not only the abuser, but the family, wife, and
children of the abuser (in most cases), abortion hurts the baby, etc. I know
you do not support abortion, but it is a woman's decision that affects
herself. We can't just give a nod of approval to the legalization of all
"victimless" crimes. If I suspected for one moment that was your wish, I'd

You seem to be saying that you are afraid to vote Libertarian because
they might get into office and take on some of the vices of RepubliCrats.
If you had evidence to support this, it might be a reason not to vote for
anyone, but it is certainly not a reason to continue voting RepubliCrat.
Furthermore, since Libertarians have not established any such record of
losing faith after winning office, you are only projecting the evils of
others onto them. It is not their infallibility as human beings which can
be expected to moderate their behavior, it is their philosophy and goals.
The other parties are full of people who have spent their lives feeding at
the public trough, while Libertarians tend to be people who earn their own
living and only enter politics out of a desperate need to try to do
something about the encroachment of the state into their lives.
If you were a power-happy office seeker would you commit yourself to a
fledgling third party with a platform of dismantling as much of the
state's size and power as possible, or would you join the ranks of the
RepubliCrats and help them forge ahead with the expansion of government?
You make politicians accountable for their actions the same way you do
any other management, by competition. If the RepubliCrats weren't getting
the 97% (or whatever it is) retention rate they enjoy, they would be a lot
more responsive. Elect a few Libertarians and even the remaining
RepubliCrats will end up doing a better job as a result.

Realistically, if Libertarians were to become a major power in U.S.
politics it would have to be a gradual process taking place from the
local level on up. It would start with the party taking the lead on local
issues, such as they did by opposing and exposing ValTrans from the very
beginning when it was touted by everyone else as a done deal. It would
depend on the election of local Libertarians to local offices and build
on their success in applying limited government.
The point is, it would not be a sudden sweep to power on a national
level which would create chaos and leave the country open to foreign
invasion. The real test of Libertarian politics at this time is how it
deals with local issues. If the time ever comes when Libertarians are
deciding what to do with the borders it will be after they have earned
that responsibility by dealing effectively with all the challenges of
city, county, state, and congressional office along the way. If they
still want to open the borders then and can get the necessary support
from the people, we will find out if they were right.

If you do, pull you head out of the sand. The only thing the drug laws do,
is make it impossible for people hooked on drugs to ask for help with out
the fear they may be arrested.
What money should be spent on is sound and truthful education about
drugs. This would would be funded by tax money collected from cleaner and
safer drugs. Passing a law does not fix the problem.... you must be a

If drugs were legalized, I still would not touch them.
