We saw Field of Dreams the other night and it was an excellent movie.
Brought a little tear to my eyes. I have a thing about my father too -
haven't seen him since I was 11 years old, so the movie hit home.

I have a stack of back issues of PC World and Popular Computing magazines
that I would hate to throw out, but if there's someone who would be
interested in them and would not mind driving to 30th St and Osborn, he can
have them for free.
If you're interested, leave me a note here, or call me at 945-7305.

I have a complete set of 80-Micro magazines that I'll sell for virtually
any reasonable offer. Let's make that the best offer before this coming
Friday. You'd have to come pick them up (30th St and Osborn), so take that
into consideration.
If you're interested, leave me a note here, or give me a call at 945-7305.

I had gotten a subscription to 80-Micro and LOVED the four issues I recieved
because they were aimed at Tandy users. Unfortunately, they went out of
business and continued my sub. with P.C. World which I do not like. I would
gladly take your magazines, but I'm switching to a Sanyo soon.

P.S. Todd might be interested because he has a Tandy EX.

I wish I could service 'serveral' at one time. I'd even like to see
a horse 'do' several at one time. What a trick.

I too saw the movie this weekend and I was pleasently surprised. It wasn't a
"Robin Williams movie" like I thought it would be. I agree that the point
of the movie was to "seize the day." Poetry just seemed like one way of
expressing individuality and not becoming one of the heard. I do disagree
with one thing Tanisha said, the movie was great. I felt the ending was not
as sad as it was inspiring. Of course the inspiration came from the feeling
of sadness, but the sadness I felt was for myself, not the characters.
Perhaps that is what Tanisha meant.

One thing most people don't realize is how *complicated* economics is.
For example, few people see the advantages to us (the middle class) of
having the very rich pay so little tax.
Example number one: tax-free munincipal bonds. Sounds like something
really neat for the rich, who can afford to buy them, but not for the rest
of us, right? Right, but only if you ignore their purpose. The very rich,
who would be taxed at a higher rate than the rest of us if they invested in
ordinary bonds, buy the tax-free bonds, which pay less interest. They come
out ahead because the interest is not taxed. But the cities that are
allowed to issue the bonds can *pay* less interest and still get people to
buy the bonds. Now when they pay back those who bought the bonds, they need
less money to do it, meaning that they have to charge less in property tax
to come up with it. And who pays the property taxes? Us. Do you want to
soak the rich by drying up the tax-free bonds? Okay, but the money will
come out of *your* pocket in the form of property taxes.
As I pointed out earlier, it doesn't *matter* what the tax system is. All
that matters is the total amount of tax that has to be collected. It will
come out of the pockets of the middle class because that's where the money
is. The poor don't have enought money to pay taxes, and there aren't enough
of the very rich that we can soak them more than we do ourselves.

Yes of course we do that now - but we have no choices in who we can vote on!
Their the same old tired, greedy politicians that dish out the same old
campain promices that they never fulfill. I personally can't see too much
difference anymore between the parties. They talk different, but act the
same once in office. Boring! -=*) ANN (*=-

Those demonstrator's that you spoke of in this country did not become a
'mob force' like they did in China.
I'm not against what China is doing. As usualy, you read what you want to
read into my posts. I hope they win.
I do not hate this country, I love it! It's people like you that have their
heads where they don't belong letting this country go to pot because you
claim it's so great all the time. It may be the best country in the world,
the most free etc. but that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement.
Our freedoms are being taken away from us a step at a time and your so blind
you can't see it happening.

For several years I lived in the deep south. I will tell you about
the very poor who lived in shacks.....and drove Cadilacs and ate better than
I did and payed no taxes. They indeed spent money and had more of it than I
did, but I did not know how to beat the system, so I payed taxes and
starved. I say let the poor pay sales tax.... they CAN afford it!

The only problem with a consumption tax is that the little guy with a
limited or lower income and a large family to support is the guy who
consumes the most in the way of clothing, food, transportation and other
necessities, and is also the guy who can least afford it.
Granted, the system as it is now is a nightmare, but I guess there are no
pat answers. It will take a combination of less spending, more equitable
taxes and some honest politicians (a contradiction in terms?) to come up
with something that is at least palatable to almost everyone.

Re: "The poor spend a higher proportion of their income on necessities like
food
than do the rich."
That is true, but the rich will pay more taxes under a straight percentage
tax assessment. The rich spent more, therefore they pay more taxes. To
make the rich pay a larger percentage is wrong. They automatically pay more
under a straight percentage tax assessment. That seems fair to me. Robbing
the rich to pay the poor concept is wrong. The rich are usually richer
because they work harder. The poor are usually poorer because they don't
work harder. There are exceptions, but they are exceptions and not the
rule.
I fall in a minority group that has to pay double social security tax,
almost 14% of my gross income goes straight to Uncle Sam. It is not fair,
and it makes me mad. But as long as I'm a minority, I doubt it will change.
Like I said before, all taxes considered, I pay almost 50% of my income to
Uncle. I oppose any tax increase of any kind for any reason.

Re: "I can handle tax on food, however, that being a necessity of life, I
do not think BASIC food should be taxed."
I suppose one could juggle the tax bite around any way they want, but the
big point is that Uncle Sam is going to get what he considers his share of
your dollar. If you exempt food from tax, Uncle will just take a bigger
bite from another catagory.

The middle class will always be the ones to pay the most. Even if
the wealthy were heavily taxed, the amount out of their pocket would just
come back to the middle class in the form of higher prices for commodities.
But it is the waste in government that needs cleaned up. The entire
IRS needs to be disbanded as well as other self-serving agencies of the
government. When this is accomplished then the taxes that we must pay will
be less or if not then we will benefit more from them.
