It seems that anything can be forgiven as long as the perpetrator claims
that people were out to get him for no good reason. Rural Oregon is probably
the most tolerant atmosphere you could find in the United States. These
people didn't go after the cult and they didn't even retaliate in kind to
the provocations.

During Rajneesh's time in this country, while he was organizing his
commune, there were buses sent to Phoenix as well as other cities around the
country, gathering the homeless as well as those who wanted to go live in
that commune in Oregon.
In my original message, I mentioned we needed something of that sort
again, yet without the holy leader. It would work but people are so damn
afraid of ANYTHING that could even remotely be labeled as communism that
ideas such as these are always nixed in a persons mind.
Most people are so brainwashed from the time they are little about
the evils of communism that they have a hard time understanding how such a
system would solve a lot of problems. I guess they like it the way it is
and I pretty much feel sorry for them. They are a slave to the clock among
other things.
I would join in a second such a state sponsored plan and I would
work my ass off to see that it succeeded. When the children get over their
fear of any 'ism' that doesn't have the word capital in front of it, then
will we begin to grow. This system does not work now, has never worked
(except for a few) and will never work.
Of course the red-neck soulution is to build more prisons, eh?

That's simply not true about Oregon being a tolerant atmosphere. They faught
the Rajneeshes tooth and nail even when the latter were within their legal
rights. I knew about Oregon way before the cult ever thought of going there.
Twenty years ago, we had decided to go to other states and look for a place
to move because we didn't like L.A. We went to Oregon first and they made it
clear many times they didn't want Californians moving there, especially
buying up property! Not only did we hear this four times, but from four
different areas. At the time, they were trying to get a law passed that
Californians couldn't buy up river front property. (un-successful) So we
said to hell with Oregon. We also found a simular attitude in Idaho. I have
heard many people say they got the same attitude when they went there on
vacations. My daughter was a legal sec. while up there and was in on all the
trials and lawsuits between the cult & Oregon. Many, many times the state
used illegal tactics and got away with it. My daughter was not a no brained
Zombie' either or would stretch the truth on the side of the cult. When
things got bad up there, she left immediately. In other words, when the cult
was at fault, she left them. See you. =*--ANN--*=

I was born and raised just north of The Dalles, Oregon and go to that area
every year. The attitude you have mentioned is not native to rural Oregon.
It is the attitude of some people in larger cities like Portland. The fact
that open season was never declared on the cult members after the food
poisoning incident proves my point conclusively.

Rural Oregon is what I was talking about. We didn't go to a big city -
Medford being the largest! I don't understand your comment about "open
season was never declared on the cult members after the food poisoning
incident"?? Why should it be? They comitted a crime and was punished for it.
The cult wasn't at fault - only a few higher ups were. What I never
understood was - why didn't they just leave the commune alone and let them
do their thing? After all - they were out in the middle of nowhere and owned
the property they were on. So they didn't have the zoning for it - variances
could have been given to them. It happens daily. If the cult was having a
mass sex orgy everyday or worshipped Bhagwan as God - what difference did it
make to the Oregonians? =*--ANN--*=

No, I think the central question is "why didn't the cult leave the
Oregonians alone, instead of trying to seize political power with a variety
of under-handed methods?"

Their worship and sexual practices may not have made much difference to
Oregonians, but the fact that they were a large fanatical cult who had
demonstrated that they had no regard for the health of other residents
obviously did make a difference. If you go somewhere and spread food
poisoning in order to facilitate a political takeover that fails you can
hardly expect to be granted special zoning favors.
All the Oregonians I ever met who displayed a negative attitude towards
people from out of state were from the larger cities, and I always suspected
that they were fairly new in the state themselves. As I mentioned earlier, I
drive through every year (and I had California plates for a couple of those
years) and I never run into any animosity in Wasco County (where Antelope is
located).

I didn't answer your question about Israel because I didn't know the

Also, you mention the under-handed methods the 'cult' used to
attempt to gain political power in Oregon, well.....was it ANY different
than what is used now, by, I would almost be certain, EVERYONE?
And, I believe the reason that Rajneesh's commune was broken up is
because, and this may sound stupid, he was an alien, he was successful and
his system ran close to Communism. Ya know, those damn Communists are
responsible for everything, like they got my kid and my kid is happy so
something has to be wrong with it, right?
This basically is what Rev. Moon did although Rajneesh had a much
better group. We Americans can send our priests over to another land to
gather followers, we can be successful but I'll be damn if those aliens can
come here and take our people's minds, especially the children.
I hope you understand my points.

have came a long way, but not far enough. It is unbelievable the people
(white) that say they are not prejudiced but if you question them, still
don't want them as neighbors or marrying their daughters! Just the other
day, I was talking to a lady I know that has swore up and down as to not
being prejudiced in the past - I have heard her talk for long lengths about
how her religion forbids prejudice etc. - we were talking about the
presidential candidates and she was asking me who I preferred. She came
right out and said stright faced and sincere - "How do you feel about the
Nigger as president"? Since I didn't want to get into another 'race' war
with her, I just answered that I wouldn't vote for anyone that was so
engrossed in religion as he is -- and let it go at that. She came back and
said she kind of liked him and might note for him. So, in her eyes, she is
not prejudiced. But I know for a fact that if one even moved in down the
block from her, she'd have a heart attack. =*--ANN--*=

It would have been a beautiful day in Sawyer, Oklahoma,
that day in 1958 except that Betsy O'Connor was having
another one of her fits again.
"Looks like a new beginning for us, Sylvia," Al choked.
Clues don't kill people, the inspector thought. People
kill people.
Dale was not one to mince words and came directly to the
point. "Hi," he said.
College graduations mean so much to so many that the

"Would you care for a glass of wine?" the butler offered.
"It's extremely rare."
Immediately after the helicopter was clear, the clouds
continued their romp across the early-evening sky in eager
anticipation of the coming of the storm that lingered
unmoving just above them.
Trembling, she thought, This is how a mouse feels when a
fox is at the door.
George Cohan soundlessly placed his lips to hers and
excused himself to go and fix them another drink.
In his excitement, Danny rode home three inches above the
subway seat. He had a job!
His pen poised, John hesitated over the white breast of
the page.
She screamed in the soprano range and her fellow diners
came running.
The detective knew exactly who had done it. The Scout
leader. Only a Boy Scout could tie knots like the one on
the rope from which the body had been hanging.
"Go-good night," Lance forced. His feet were not in sync
with his arms and he fell over a chair, popping his blazer
buttons all over the floor.
The man's words seeped through the boy's consciousness

Jenny looked like a china doll, her black shiny hair
fitting the contour of her head like a cap. Gray-haired
Louise was six months younger and looked twenty years older.
Of course, tragedy did these things to people. Jenny's own

hadn't gone all to pieces. Of course, Louise's husband and
son had been victims in a murder case, which was rather
different.

Mrs. Reagan called a 'Mexican Standoff'" The article was a little vague -
but it seems Nancy resented Raisa in taking the 'spotlight' away from her

Subject: Censorship
Date: 06/02/88 Time: 18:20:10
From "On Gogol Boulevard" Spring 1988:
Court OKs School Censorship
On January 13, the U.S. Supreme Court sharply cut back the
rights of high school students to freedom of speech and
press. It gave public school administrators sweeping power
to censor school sponsored student newspapers and other
publications. Instead of accepting students as citizens
whose freedom can only be limited for good cause and then
only as narrowly as possible, the ruling allows school
officials to censor anytime "their actions are reasonably
related to legitimate pedagogical concerns."
High school student rights expanded enormously in the U.S.
as a result of the movement for Black freedom, the
anti-Vietnam War movement, the women's movement, the lesbian
and gay movement, etc. In 1969 the Supreme Court ruled that
students in an Iowa high school could not be expelled for
wearing black armbands as part of a protest of the war in
Vietnam -- that high school students had the right to free
speech as long as they did not disrupt classwork or invade
the rights of others.
At thousands of schools across the country, this decision
was used as ammunition to destroy anti-long hair (for boys)
and anti-pants (for girls) dress codes. An alternate
high school press movement was also sprouting and spreading
everywhere. As time has passed, some of the attitudes of
the alternate press of that day have found their way into
official school journalism. The recent ruling gives
principals a free hand to make the school papers docile
propaganda sheets. Although its main immediate effect will
be at middle class schools that, despite cutbacks in federal
support, still have things like school papers, it is an
attack against all students.

Maybe you should fire of a letter to Raisa! Tell her how sincerely sorry
we are that our first lady has an ego, and beg her not to have her husband
destroy our continent. Add that you are certain that in their divine state
of enlightenment they will surely grant us this favor, and include your
apologetic forgiveness in advance in case they don't.
Nah, we deserve it! Beg for it! Tell them its the only way we can be
absolved of Nancy's sins. Be sure and tell Rod if they agree to nuke us,
since it is just the sort of event he has been looking forward to.
See you later,
Dean H.

It has come to my attention that a new user of Apollo, the alledged "Dan
Drew" is, in fact, the wanted Nazi war criminal Josef Mengele. A few years
ago, many rumors surfaced indicating that this man was dead, but new
evidence suggests that these rumors were certainly in error. As part of a
fiendish plot to overthrow the United States Government, this man faked his
own death in South America, and then entered this country. He now lives in
the metro-Phoenix area where he is currently orchestrating a master plan
designed to poison our water supply. It is with great reluctance I make
these relevations, for my personal safety is now surely in danger.
We must unite against this enemy of mankind and destroy him once and for
all! I suggest that Cliff appoint a blue-ribbon commission to study how to
best deal with this hideous man, and make recommendations in that regard.
After the Commission's study is complete, we will consider its suggestions
and act immediately.

I could answer that question in several ways and first I will answer
in what you understand/expect. No, not unless something really tramatic
happens to the whole of mankind. Like a meteor impacting with the earth
then mankind will be reunited for about a week but will learn a little bit
more in the process. Space aliens attacting us would also bring earthlings
close together and then prejudices would be forgotten among us although we
would then be prejudiced against THEM. Oh well.
The other way I will answer your question is, yes, because a
lifetime, assuming that nothing in the universe ever dies, only changes, is
forever and that's a long while, my friend.
Have a nice forever.
