I didn't go to court. I was concerned about the possibility of the officer
having stopeed the other vehicle sometime later that evening. If that had
happened, he might have decided to ticket me for drag racing. I decided to
avoid any potential hassle and pay the fine.
Saul is a car thief? I might have some business for him.
JT is working for the Manhattan Institute, a conservative organization
located in Manhattan. He is writing for their newsletter. I haven't talked
to him since we stopped at your house in January.
See you around the universe,

No, we already decided no churches or ministers of any kind. After that, we
don't have any set plans. No jumping from planes for me, thanks. I was
thinking about having it done after climbing Squaw Peak. I wouldn't want to
have a reception there, though, especially if it was still hot. Who knows!

Something must be working in Rods life! Look at all the kids he has?
You aren't really insinuating that Rod is an athiest because he smokes pot
are you?
Rod unhealthy? You gotta be kidding. All the years I've been on this board I
heard him complain once - not too long ago about his tooth! Where on the
other hand, you complain of sinus problems, allergies, headaches ... etc.
and YOU DON'T take drugs!!! Paul, another non drug user just went to the
hospital for his 'trick knee' and of course, he always has bleeding sinuses!

Glad you asked that, cool cat. Would you become paranoid if you knew that
what you were doing was mandated as a felony?
The only reason a pot smoker may become paranoid is that smoking pot is a
crime in the eyes of the establishment. Is that a good enough reason?
Yes, I guess pot could be considered a bit differently if it caused the user
to become oblivious to their surroundings? Agree?
Rod
And I'll bet that you, Paul Savage and Cliff, each one of you individually,
consume more drugs each day than I do. I have zero prescriptions from
doctors.
Of course the ones you guys take are legal therefore you don't get a twinge
of paranoia when you take them. That would be unnatural, now wouldn't it?
All you may wonder about is, will they do the job, does medical science know
enough at present to cure my condition(s)? There are many deaths and other
disorders that come from legal medicine. There has never been a documented
death from using the marijuana plant.
Something to think about....marijuana is a direct and fairly close relative
of the Cat Nip plant. That, Cat, may be something you would be interested
in.

What you are thinking of is the Turrette (sp) syndrome. THe young son of a
friend of my daughter's has it. It is a chemical imbalance that causes
various sorts of tics, such as rapid eye blinking, finger snapping, etc. and
uncontrollable cursing. It can be controlled by medication, but, according
to my daughter, it's easy to see when the medication is wearing off since
the symptoms are quite pronounced.
I don't know if there is a cure, or whether or not the syndrome can be
outgrown.

I don't know of anybody outgrowing it. Oliver Sacks had some interesting
things to say about it in "The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat". One was
that it used to be thought very rare (about one case in a million or so),
but apparently it's far more common than people thought. Haldane is one
drug used to control it.

I might have known that simple reasoning would fail to penetrate the fog
that envelopes your thinking.
If you consider anyone who believes in the Bible as a Boob, you must stand
in the position of one who does not believe in the Word of God, and
therefore, not in the God of the Word as well. Which means that, conversely,
you must stand on your own "righteousness", and therefore are in the
position of one sadly lacking in foundation.

I believe that God knows the final outcome of every situation, since he

to achieve God's purposes in this world, and the realization and acceptance

Here is Webster's New World Dictionary definition of self-righteous:
self-righteous adj. filled with or showing one's own conviction of being
morally superior, or more righteous than others; smugly virtuous.
I submit, again, that no matter what MY mental attitude or MY belief is that
you fit that definition to a "T". My use of the pejorative "Bible Believing
Boob" has no effect whatsoever on your righteousness in all its glory. Now,
we may debate MY attitude and that I am judging you from what I consider to
be a morally superior position than you. But that does not detract one iota,
one smidgeon, one microscopic speck from your own self-righteousness.

Is your cockatiel a male or female? I might be interested in taking him - he
would be in a very large cage with two others and a parakeet. I don't know
how much attention he would get, but he wouldn't be lonely. The cage gets
natural sunlight in the afternoons and the birdies get fruits and veggies
all the time, plus millet and other cockatiel goodies. Let me know and we
can talk about it OK? What color is he? My other two are grey with a yellow
face and all yellow. That one is totally tamed. *>>> ANN O. <<<*
P.S. I have raised cockatiels in the past and am a experienced bird person.

In today's paper is an article about a atomic goat that got away from
researchers in Albuquerque. Seems they have been experimenting with
injecting goats with radioactive isotopes so that they can track the coyotes
after they eat them???!!!! All ten goats got out and only 9 were found and
now they fear that one will contaminate the long horned sheep in the area
which are on the endangered species list!! Not only that, but also other
animal life that might eat of it's remains such as birds etc.
The article states .. "The scientists believed that the coyotes, which were
in a large, fence-off area with the goats, would ingest the radioactive
material if they killed and ate any of the goats, thereby, revealing their
habits."
It may be a dumb question, but couldn't they use something else besides
radioactive isotopes to find out about coyotes??? What do they need to find
out about coyotes they don't already know??
The article said "The nine 'slightly radioactive' goats were buried
alongside the few coyotes". How safe is 'slightly radioactive' anyway??
This makes me ill to think about it. We call ourselves 'civilized'? HA!

Perhaps the marine has access to scanning technology that would allow him to
store his wife's body electronically on a 200 MB disk. This reminds me of
the question: Assuming the technology existed to determine the position and
momentum of every particle in your body, and this information was stored say
on some medium, and further that in the process of determining the position
and momentum of every particle in your body your body was destroyed, and
finally it was possible to reconstitute your body with each particle's
position and momentum restored at the instant of reading, would you be aware
of anything amiss ? (BBB's need not reply)

Actually the glasses just make everything look different. They also make
it possible for me to drive all day without getting a headache from glare,
etc. I only mentioned them because when I wear them it occurs to me that
the world could just as well be the way it looks in the glasses and my
eyes could be making it look different when I don't have the glasses on.
I see life as something that happens for a short time and doesn't give any
clue that there is anything beyond it. There are plenty of things I would
like to change, and as Bill Burkett pointed out, some things are gradually
changing for the better. Many other things are sliding into the toilet, like
the freedom to make your own choices where they do not harm others, but if
this life is all we get, I would rather try to enjoy it and do what I can to
improve it realistically. Throwing up my hands and saying that we are all
doomed as long as we have bodies just doesn't seem like a useful option to
me.

From Scientific American, October, 1990:
Cannabis Comprehended
The "assassin of youth" points to a new pharmacology
Marijuana is celebrated--or castigated--for producing
euphoria and altering perception. But the cannabis plant
has for centuries been used for its medicinal properties as
well as for intoxication. If it were possible to develop
drugs that achieve marijuana's medicinal benefits but
dispense with its mood-altering effects, they might make
valuable additions to the physician's black bag.
Cannaboids, the active chemicals in marijuana, have a range
of physiological effects. They combat convulsions and
nausea, dilate the air passages in the lungs and decrease
pressure in the eyes. They can also kill pain and lower
blood pressure. But because of their side effects, the Food
and Drug Administration permits synthetic cannaboids to be
used only to suppress nausea caused by cancer chemotherapy
and then only if other remedies fail.
Researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health in
Bethesda, Md., have made a discovery that could lead to new
pharmaceuticals based on marijuana. Lisa A. Matsuda, Tom I.
Bonner and their colleagues have isolated and cloned a gene
that gives rise to the receptor molecules that canniboids
bind to in the brain. The workers recently described their
findings in *Nature*.
Luck played a part in the discovery. The investigators
had been searching for receptor genes using molecular
screening techniques, but they were not looking specifically
for a cannaboid receptor. When they turned up what looked
like a novel receptor gene in rat brains cells, they
implanted it in cultured cells and then tested the cells'
responsiveness to various substances. The last substances
the group tested were cannaboids.
The cannabiod receptor is distinct from other types of
drug receptors in the brain, such as those that bind to
opiates. But like some other receptors, the cannaboid
receptor is bound up with proteins in the cell membrane
called G proteins. These proteins relay chemical signals to
the cell when their associated receptor binds to a target
molecule.
Cannaboid receptors presumably did not evolve for the
pleasure of marijuana users. It seems more likely that the
brain produces a natural cannaboidlike substance. That
compound has not yet been identified, but Allyn C. Howlett
of St. Louis University, who first found evidence for
cannaboid receptors two years ago, says it is not one of the
known neurotransmitters. Miles Herkenham of the National
Institute for Mental Health, who has mapped cannaboid
receptors in the brain, finds they are particularly common
in the hippocampus, a region involved in memory.

Your message was well put. I liked the part about throwing up my hands and
saying we are all doomed as long as we have bodies of flesh.
You should add, as long as we have bodies of heavy flesh and are confined to
this or any planet of heavy mass.
Speaking of heavy mass, somewhere around thousands of years ago the
Superstition Mountain was an active volcano. It is still considered fairly
young ground. It is still pushing up as I was told by a surveyor.
The San Francisco Peak near Flagstaff last erupted in 1116 I believe.
We could do so much more if not confined to a sort of a jail like earth and
the physical body is.
I think space will be more fun. Being a proletariat is not much fun.
