To do such a simplification, the first step is getting the denominators the
same -- otherwise you can't do addition or subtraction of the terms.
Multiply the first term by 1 (the only legal thing to do...) but make it
take this form: (x^2 + 1)/(x^2 + 1) or ... (x^2 + 1)(x^2 + 1)^-1; this
makes the denominators of the two terms equal. The subtraction can then be
done on the numerators, and everything will fall out.

Picard (or is that, THE Picard) won't be back this fall. My theory is that
because he's such a good actor (PBS type) he won't limit himself to one

Re: "AIDS happened to get to the US through the gay community but it is NOT
a gay disease. AIDS is transmitted through blood and semen and you can get
it through any type of intercourse, even in the missionary position."
What difference does it make? OK, let's call it something else. Let's call
it VD instead. The fact remains that anytime the word "AIDS" comes up, the
first thing everyone thinks of is "homo". The fact remains that more
homosexuals have the disease in the USA then any other group. Everyone
knows how to prevent AIDS. So why are people still getting it? Why do the
homosexuals have such a push on to find a cure when they already know how to
prevent it? It's difficult for me to feel sorry for them. There are
innocent people who get AIDS through no fault of their own. I do feel very
sorry for them.

Rod, you sound like a man who is kind to animals! How come you are mean to
us Christians?
Re: "Hair came about as a survival mechanism and has served animals well
during our short history."
Well, that's just it. We don't have any history or evidence that humans
were once covered by hair. It is a fine sounding idea, but it holds about
as much water as the idea that all were once bald. You see, all animals
(and humans) had no hair at all except for a little tuft on the end of their
noses. Now we all know how the theory of evolution works. After several
billions years, the animals' hair spread all over their bodies. We humans,
on the other hand, had very little luck with spreading hair and only managed
to get it on the top of our head and a few other places. I'm not sure why
it quit growing on the ends of our noses. Hmmmmm? I agree with you about
shaving too. I grew a beard when I got out of the service, but my wife said
she wouldn't kiss me anymore if I didn't cut it off. I am weak, so I cut it
off. I've also tried to convince several lady friends of the futility of
shaving certain areas of their bodies but to no avail.

Re: "Quick, quick! Rod's coming! Hide the cat!"
Now I want you to know that I am very partial to cats. We have a black cat
named Spunky. He acts just like a cat. I can sit in my chair (I have a
special chair that no one is allow to sit in except me), and call him, and
Spunky will stop whatever he's doing and come jump in my lap. Well, that's
not quite true. I usually have to chase him down and hold him in my lap by
force. He is very clever though. He will pretend he is relaxed and
enjoying my lap, but if I lower my guard, he will take off like a bat out of
you know where. I've noticed it is getting harder and harder to catch him.
We also have a dog named yogi. He is a puddle and I hate him. He knows it
too. If I walk too close to him he will run away. I don't know why. Maybe
it is because I kick him whenever he's within reach. I would like to get
rid of him, but he is the wife's dog. I remember once trying to kick the
dog, he is getting so fast, I missed the stupid dog and kicked my oldest boy
instead. It made him cry. I felt bad about that.

Hmmm, interesting thought. This is a neat way to write Picard out of the
weekly episodes, yet, perhaps keep him around as "Locutor of Borg" in
regular guest appearances. Either that, or Picard's mind proved to
resistant to the Borg, and they quickly constructed/replicated another

It is true that aids is spread thru heterosexual contact, I hear,
but the heterosexuals probably contracted it from an "AC-DC" type who got it
from a homosexual, right? I'm no expert on this, but I think Ann is right.
Also, why do aids infected people have such rights to privacy, when
a person with the clap or some other VD has to list all his contacts for the
past couyple of months, and they'll be contacted by a disease control
doctor?

Lojban is a recent project, patterned after Loglan. Loglan was a logical
language, meant as an experiment to see if it could set thought patterns
into a logical form, or something like that. Anyway, the inventor decided it
should be the international language, and there is a center (I think in
Florida) which will sell you information on the language.
Lojban was created over the last several years, I think mainly by a group in
the DC area. I heard that the Loglan people were suing them for copyright
violation. Lojban is supposed to be much more easily generated (the author
of Loglan admitted that it could take him hours to come up with a sentence),
and an article that I saw one supposedly had a few people sitting around
speaking the language over pizza and beer.
A friend of mine in DC has a friend who is involved in Lojban. When I was
there in June, I was promised more information. I guess that I should
e-mail my friend to prod him.

Date: 07/06/90 Time: 01:06:52
Air quality is a farce. I don't have those figures handy with me
from that post awhile back, but I believe the average takeoff consumes
900 lbs - 1600 lbs of fuel depending on weight / engines (size, number
and thrust), air temp, wind and a whole bunch of niggeldy piggedly stuff
that we wont go into. The average flight consumes a little over 27,000
lbs (I'l have to re-check all this as it's been quite some time..)
of aviation fuel...which fortunately is high Octane. The AVGAS mixture
contains all kinds of benzene, lead and Kerosene which gives you the
black smoke and soot on the engines.
On take off, that rolling 15 ton cigar canister is spewing out
190,000,000 cubic feet of exhaust per minute. And we have this
doddling cart wagon of bitching bag ladies who are unctuously pointing
their fingers at single person cars on the freeways.
20 takeoffs later, you can $--T-can those 390,000 vehicles on the
freeway per hour.
Now girls and boys, don't forget our 15 ton sardine can is still
blowing consumed avgas into our atmosphere..only this time its at
29,000 feet ... where that nice 12 tons of consumed solid matter will
deposit itself where it can do the worst dammage..into our rain clouds
and on up into the jetstream where it'll bombard your crop of pistachios
next year. So next time it snows, dont stick your tongue out to catch the
flakes unless you like the taste of kerosene.

Yes as far as price goes, they charge $152 per semester hour, but they are a

With dorm room, it will cost the VA $8996 per year for 4 years to put me

I got a complet tour of their campus, especially their CS department, and
ALL the equipment I saw was brand new, half of it still in boxes, they just
purchased 40 new computers. They also have a VAX 11/750 mainframe on campus.
They teach All aspects of current CS, such as computer information systems,

Let us distinguish between CS (computer science) and CIS (computer
information systems). The former is a much broader area of study, which
would prepare one to become either a systems programmer, an applications
programmer, or a computer hardware engineer/designer, depending on what
courses you choose within that curriculum. CIS as I understand it basically
prepares you to write applications software, primarily business oriented
stuff, and is usually heavy on COBOL and that sort of thing. Make sure that
you understand the difference: if you want to write accounting packages and
the like, then CIS is your bag; if you want to write systems software or do
computer engineering, you had better opt for CS. CS also requires a far
more extensive set of core math courses.

Can you imagine how long a faggot of wood is?
Now why in heaven's name would someone use such an obviously eloquent
term used to describe wood for a gratuitously arrogant breed of
rump-humpers ?
How many faggots in a cord? How many faggots to a ton?
You don't hear people using that term lightly these days. In perspective
its rather humrous. In Australia, they have a nick-name for rump humpers
as they do in England; "POOFTER"...pr: POOF- TAH. Anyone using the
term "POOF" was looked at strangely. The same with the word :
"ROOT". Which is Australian slang for the act of copulation. Can
you imagine what happened when I saw the "ROTO-ROOTER" van drive by and
then later see the commercial?
Can you say basket-case?
Do you know how many times my eyes bulged when someone said they'd be
"Rooting for me" on the side?
Conversely, a casual term in Australia used to ask someone to awaken
you if they're up first is : "Knock me up in the morning would ya?"
I had some wary room-mates there for awhile.
So. The point of all this is simple. The recipient in a debate or
conversation, who receives a word he/she considers offensive, can only
be the one to be blamed if the word is not given with the explicit
intention of offending. The terms FAGGOT, POOFTA, QUEER and others
can be used harmlessly...but if it were left up to those who draw
offense from any use of the word(s), they wouldn't be in Websters.

a more balanced individual, emotionaly, physically, and mentally.
Most people don't realize how importand spirutal well being is. That is why
atheists in a lot of cases have emotional problems, they have nothing to
believe in. Eventually such a persons selfesteem equals 0, and a lot of them
don't even realize this. Like I said I am not a practicing christian yet or
may never be, but since I have started to believe in god, a recent
development, my selfesteem rose 100%. My believe is only small and recent,
but it has helped me so much, especially since my hard divorce and severe
depression, that I have no other alternative but to think it is the reason
for me feeling better about myself.

OR, he might end up with the misanthropic notion that his fellow man is
doomed by the curse of Original Sin and with his self-esteem crippled by his
daily reliance on a super-being.
Just remember, Lochansky; men are vermin in the eyes of the Lord and only by
debasing yourself before Him can you escape the punishment of eternal
damnation. Also, in dealing with non-Christians, keep in mind that they're
all pawns of Satan, whether they realize it or not, and that all the Jews
you've ever met are going to hell, because, after all, they have rejected
Christ.

A lot of *atheists* have emotional problems? Is that why you can't find any
atheists standing on street corners throwing pamphlets and screaming at
passersby regarding their imminent descent into hell? Is that why you can't
find atheists looking up at the ceiling and talking to imaginary beings? Is
that why you find atheists looking for practical solutions to the problems
of the world instead of sitting on their butts praying and hoping
(fantasizing) about a better life in the next world?
As for self-esteem...all I can say is, any self-esteem based on anything
other than your own merits is sheer self-delusion. Spiritualism is for
primitives and weak minded moderns who can't come to grips with the reality
of their own lives and who therefore turn to the safety and comfort of
all-powerful parent substitutes.

Well, I think what homosexuals find objectionable is the derision inherent
in those words. Just as blacks object to the term "nigger", hispanics
object to the term "spic", women object to the term "bitch", and scholarly
people object to the term "egghead", homosexuals object to terms like
"faggot", "queer", and the like. I can understand their objection, and in
this case, feel that it is a greater sin to be needlessly cruel about
someone's vices than it is to practice those vices. More or less, anyway.
I mean, I don't refer to the mentally retarded as "doofuses", nor to people
with weak vision as "four-eyes", so why should I behave any differently
toward other figures of pathos, such as homosexuals? It must be dreadful to
be so mentally ill as to consider the rectum a source for sexual
gratification; I mean, I don't like getting feces on my hands, much less on
far more intimate parts of my anatomy.

I remember years ago when there was a polio epidemic - they closed all the
public pools for at least a year until it died down. Also, the schools
quit having groups of kids gathering such as in an auditorium - in other
words, close quarters. If there was chicken pox, measles, whooping caugh or
the like in a household, a quarentine sigh was put on the door by the health
dept. We didn't feel the least bit intimidated or our rights violated. We
had a feeling of responsibility towards our fellow man NOT to contaminate
him! I see nothing wrong in that and it should be happening today. Maybe
AIDS is not a high contaminating disease, but it is spread non the less and
it is deadly - no turning back! I would want to know who has it myself and
can make a judgement if I want to associate with that person or not. I'd
certainly be careful if nothing else.
I, in all honesty cannot say whether I'd want my kids going to school with
another one that had it! Today, I don't think it would bother me, but then,
I do not have kids in school! I think we are all a certain amount ignorant
of the disease - but that includes the doctor's too! I do know one fact - we
all fear it greatly! There is no doubt a lot of rumors that are not true
about it. Facts: it is rising rapidly - it is deadly - it is basically
throughout the gay community but spreading to the hetrosexuals very fast and
I think it could wipe out the human race if it isn't curtailed! Until is is
cured, we need to take responsibily upon ourselves to do what we can to stop
it! If that means closing bath house, gay bars & meeting places, condom
usage, screening every ounce of blood that is donated, then so be it!

I was never bigoted against gays even when they were called 'queers, fags
and lip wrists'! Never understood it! Was glad to see them come out of the
closet so to speak. After all - to each his own and a person should not be
judged by their sexual preferences. Who cares? BUT - here this AIDS thing
has raised it's ugly head and I'm almost afraid to say anything for fear I
say something against gays and get reprimanded for being bigoted and not
know what I'm talking about! I don't care what group of people are
responsible - it's happening in the gay comnunity for the most part - they
know it, you know it and I know it! They act as if everyone is pointing a
finger at them for no reason. Why not point the finger if it's in the right
direction? Case in point - that cartoon about bath houses! I found it to be
truth and to the point. They must take their own responsibility - we can't
take it for them! I tell you - I don't understand any of this!

Good point about AIDS Bob. Whenever I shoot-up I'm wearing a condom. Now
is that safe or what?
As far as me being so-called "mean" to Christians, Bob, is because I love
all animals, the human included. In fact there is within me an equal love
for all atoms in the universe and that is why you think I am being mean
whereas I am only trying to help save the race from its folly.
I am not lukewarm as your confusing book of Orders warns against, I try to
help when I can because I have a big vested interest in the outcome of the
human race. This interest is always in the fore-front of my mind.
And that is why you think I am being "mean".
As for humans with hair then I think you missed it. Our ancestors, the
cave-men were hairy types but when they slit open and crawled inside a large
dead animal it was an error that would have resounding consequences up to
this day and beyond.

with automobiles with their engines running, emitting all sorts of toxic

from.
We'd better hope that our children are capable of mutating FAST. Comprendo?
But in reality it is all of us who are breathing this same stuff even in our

To those who have it from that reason, better luck next time.
ANYONE, who bypasses all bodily defense systems with a needle and injects

And if there was a cure for AIDS it should not be given to either group

Well Jeff Beck, if you read carefully my post, I said I'm not a practicing
christian. My father is jewish, my mother is catholic, my mothers parents
were protestant. So you can see I was educated in numerous religions.
I had my holy communion, and a barmizwa both, because the grandparents
insisted upon it.
Does believing in a higher being make me a moron?
Since I am somewhat educated in the old and new testament, and for reading
prefrance the old testament, I haven't made up my mind about christ yet, but
I do firmly believe in a higher spirutal being, no matter what you want to
call him,her or it.
What is so terrible about believing in a higher being, if you are wrong, who
is going to punish you when you die?
So I wasted some precious thought and time.
Will it make a diffrence when my time is up? About looking into the sky when
praying, I never gave it any thought, about were I look, as a matter of fact
I close my eyes when praying. Who is to say I'm really praying? I personnaly
think I am communication with whatever I believe in. I have not gotten an
answer yet, but that is what hope is all about. I guess we will all find out
when we die, wont we.
I do not sit around and try to pray the worlds problems away, I try to
activly participate in any effort to change it, worthy efford that is.
For one I don't know if I could be a good christian, I don't believe in adam
and eve, nether do I agree with the pope on his stand about contaceptives.

The correct "word" is homosexual. I see nothing "gay" about being in a high

St. Joseph's Hospital has a bulletin board which is often boring,
but sometimes very interesting. They are now quoting the statistics of AIDS
infection in the state of Arizona, as well as of the country. I recommend it
highly, it is very informative. The main gist of it, is that 88% of the
Aids cases in Arizona (90%) in the USA) are in homosexual or bisexual men or
intravenous drug abusers. Between 2% and 4% are in hemophiliacs who
contracted the disease from a blood transfusion. Most of the rest are in
people who have had sex with bisexuals or drug addicts, and some are listed
as from "category 2 countries." I don't know what a category 2 country is,
but I know that if 90 to 92% of AIDS cases (and 73% homo men) are from rump
humpers (great term, Mike, thanks) or IV drug squirters, then I refuse to
accept this as a "disease of all Americans!"

Well, that last sentence was an exact quote of what you said.
You mean that if a person is a non-believer and when they die they may be
punished?
Jeff, if all this stuff and all these people that you see around you was in
fact created by some super intelligent entity and this entity would punish
ANYTHING it made, ever, then something is wrong somewhere. It could still
be considered super intelligent but it could not be considered as loving.
In fact IT could be considered as cruel.
After all, here we would have something capable of creating other life
forms, although not as of yet intelligent ones, and then because of an error
judgement have them punished.
If I am going to believe in a made up deity then thank you, I will believe
