Hi Rod...I got a message that you called tonight around 9:00, but didn't get
in until around 1:30. Didn't actually DO that much...I drove out to Kiwanis
Park because I heard something on the radio about a jazz festival there
tonight at 7:30, but the "jazz" group was a less than well rehearsed band
called "Igor's Cowboy Jazz Band"...oh well...they occasionally floundered
into some decent swing rhythms and there was a goodly number of people there
to at least provide a "festive" atmosphere. I stuck around for a while
afterwards, and watched some people (mainly girls) trying to jump two ropes
swinging out of phase with each other, without too much success. Watched a
volleyball game (really wanted to play, but didn't want to butt in). Went
and saw "The Squeeze", which was horrible...well, maybe not that bad, but
not good either. Then I drove around looking for something interesting
(don't ask me what) to catch my eye. I took Central all the way down to
South Mountain Park (which was closed with a vehicle barricade), and back
without finding any sort of night life (except for one or two decrepit souls
which I assumed were street people (probably because they were sleeping on
bus benches). Whoopie...

That was great Rod. Every once in a while you come up with a real
gem..."yea, though I trot through the valley of death, I get annoyed with
this little fly that keeps buzzing me"...and..."he maketh me lie down in
decay and slimeballs"...are surely two all-time great lines. They are
certainly better than Michael Keaton's new movie, "The Squeeze". After I
paid $5.50 to see it, I felt kind of squeezed myself.

Very funny! I'd like to tie a knot ON him - not with him. By the way - our
Woman/Ann/JT discussion is through - KAPOOT - done - over!! Have you ever
heard the expression of "Pi$$ing into the wind"? WELL if I could, thats
what I've been doing. That man - or kid, what ever - won't budge an inch. He
thinks of himelef as an intelligent debater
He prefers name calling to discussion, so I don't want to waste my time.
I've read over the posts and I see he treats everyone that way too.
Personally, I'd reather talk to God. --- ANN

Two of my cats got eaten by coyotes or run over by cars, so I only have one
left and could use some replacements. Would you mind mailing me a couple of
kittens?

Why am I awake at this time of the night????
Why do I do things like this to myself???
I am begining to think that I have masochistic tendencies. (Then again,
I have thought that for a long time.)
Did you ever think that possibly we are all just a Little Computer
People (TM) program running in someone's computer????
I just waiting for the owner to answer when I tap on the glass.
See what happens when you stay out late earning money????
It would be so much easier if I could earn this money in the afternoon
but unfortunately it just isn't possible.

...
Our arsenals for fighting off bacteria are so powerful,
and involve so many different defense mechanisms, that we
are in more danger from them than from the invaders. We
live in the midst of explosive devices; we are mined.
...
The gram-negative bacteria are the best examples of this.
They display Lipopolyssacharide endotoxin in their walls,
and these macromolecules are read by our tissues as the very
worst of bad news. When we sense lipopolyssacharide, we are
likely to turn on every defense at our disposal; we will
bomb, defoliate, blockade, seal off, and destroy all the
tissues in the area.
...
All this seems unnecessary, panic-driven. There is
nothing intrinsically poisonous about endotoxin, but it must
look awful, or feel awful, when sensed by cells. Cells
believe that it signifies the presence of gram-negative
bacteria, and they will stop at nothing to avoid this
threat.
...
It is, basically, a response to propoganda, something like
the panic-producing pheromones that slave-taking ants
release to disorganize the colonies of their prey.

I think it likely that many of our diseases work in this
way. Sometimes, the mechanisms used for overkill are
immunologic, but often, as in the limulus model, they are
more primitive kinds of memory. We tear ourselves to pieces
because of symbols, and we are more vulnerable to this than
to any host of predators. We are, in effect, at the mercy
of our own Pentagons, most of the time.

I have offered facts, and all you have offered in reply is statements like,
"you are wrong and simply won't admit it!" or "you just don't know period."
Not a single fact to bolster your case. It is unfortunate that you don't
feel this subject is important enough to merit a reasonable discussion.

Subject: Today's lesson
Date: 07/14/87 Time: 22:41:54
The Reagan Administration has come under a lot of fire for, if not violating
the Boland Amendment, well, at least trying to find ways around it,
violating its "spirit" if not its letter by seeking support for the
Nicaraguan freedom-fighters. Some wise-ass liberals have even gone so far
as to use this to derogate the doctrine of original intent in constitutional
law--the New Republic suggested that the Administration should have called
Congressman Boland and asked him whether his amendment was meant to apply to
the NSC.
If the Boland Amendment is not unconstitutional, and if indeed the
administration violated its provisions, it is legally culpable for doing so
(whether it is morally culpable is a matter of some debate, but beside the
point of this lesson). But it is ludicrous to criticize the administration
for attempting to supply the freedom-fighters while remaining in compliance
with the letter of the Boland Amendment.
In this country we have a system of checks and balances, so that each branch
of the government exercises some control over the other two branches. The
current congressional hearings are a legislative check to balance executive
power. There are also executive checks on legislative power; the most
important is the veto.
Now, had the Boland Amendment been a bill unto itself, it would certainly
have been vetoed by President Reagan, and would not have been able to muster

the two-thirds majority needed to overturn a presidential veto. Why didn't
the President veto Boland? Because it was an amendment to an appropriations
bill, and if it had not passed, the government would not have been able to
continue functioning.
Thus, it is clear that Congressman Boland proposed it as an amendment to the
appropriations bill rather than as a separate bill in order to get around
the President's veto power. Legally there is nothing wrong with this, but
it did violate the spirit of the Constitution's veto provision.
If the Administration defied the will of Congress, but did so legally, why
is this any more suspect than the Congress defying the will of the
Administration--completely legally?

I agree completely.
Putting these ridiculous amendments on appropriations bills is a practice
which is much more damaging than anything North did.

What "FACTS"??? Something you "READ" from a book... and because it
was someone else who wrote it, you bought it "Hook, Line and Sinker" as
TRUTH? Does personal experiance count for anything?
JT on Cliff ?
Did I say North was accused of something? Are you telling me
we can't have a poll on how we feel about what is going on with Oliver
North and the Contra affair (scandal)?
Typical "Reporter" type mentality, J.T., Forcing your interpretation
of the facts on other people rather than just reporting the facts as they
are.
