 You probably know by now that the girl's problem was not strep at all, but
a meningitis infection, a very rare one at that. All those who have had
contact with her recently were advised to get preventitive inoculations, and
there should be no further problems. We hope.

 This is still your BBS Cliff. It is your equipment, your time spent on
maintenance, and your efforts spent on keeping it online.
 If anyone has a right to express themselves, it should be you. We have
disagreed on many things over the years, and probably will continue to do
so, but I respect your right to voice your opinions, and appreciate your
respect of mine as well. I wouldn't concern myself over some
Johnny-come-lately who hasn't made a positive contribution to the BBS since
his name has showed up on the log.

The way I look at it - we have sigs. to say anything we want to on. And I
never remember Cliff ever throwing anyone off Apollo for not agreeing with
him. He reacts pretty much the same as we all do when our opinions are
bucked. I just don't see a problem here. Of course, this is only my opinion.

Well, I certainly hope you WILL NOT keep your "opinions to yourself a bit
more" and "I will shut up!" stuff. I don't intend to, so why should you?
When you are especially active on here, the board is loaded with messages.
Simple - we like to banter with you. It is ridiculous to think the sysop is
censored and the members are not. so stop it already!

There are those out there who lend no reliability or authority whatsoever on
the Bible. And yet many of these same people will often refer to a
publication as the "bible" on this topic or that (i.e. "the bible of record
collecting," or "the bible of English grammar").
 
Now, my question is: Do these people regard these publications that they tag
as "bible" to be unreliable or lacking authority?
 
Yes, this is one of those stupid, half-awake late night rhetorical
questions. Kinda like "If there is such a thing as a sacred cow, would a
hamburger and a glass of milk be considered sacraments?"

     People will refer to something as "The bible of XXXXX" for the same
reason that people say, "Oh GOD!  Not again!"  It's a part of culture.  I
don't have to believe in the bible's authority for me to be able to refer to
something as a "bible."  I'm just making a point:  "Other people regard
such-and-such grammar book as a source of authority."

      In other words, I needn't believe the bible in order to note that many
people regard it as a source of authority.
