I pulled the Sanyo 17+ AT out of the box today and put in the 512K Genoa
Super VGA board, and connected the monitor. I also fixed Ann's extra 360K
floppy drive and configured it as drive B. It was great turning on the
system for the very fist time and watching the first bits of color hit the
VERY high res Seiko CM-1430 VGA monitor....

Mini-Scribe called me today to let me know they did get the board I sent
them and are now shipping out the correct board for the very fast 42 meg
Mini-Scribe 3.5 hard drive. More than 3 times faster than Apollo's hard
drive by the way.

Won't be long now....

*=* the 'Mighty' Apollo SYSOP *=*

P.S. The Genoa Super 512K VGA board is a TRUE 16 bit board and is the
fastest of the VGA boards on the market and at 1024 X 768 res.

That last post made me go crazy(er)! I can't stand it another minute and
feel like running, screaming out of this house! How am I gonna pass the time
waiting? I must go get some tint and cover my new grey hairs that have
popped out from all this waiting! I must go to the drug store and get some
sleeping pills so that I can sleep! Is the sun shining? The birds singing? I
wouldn't know it - I'm in a impatient daze! Soon they will be taking me to
the hospital - they will ask my husband what's the matter with me - he'll
have to say I've been waiting for my new VGA Sanyo for months/years and they
will have to give me a shock treatment or two. Sob. -=*) ANN (*=-

What we need to do is bury people in a wooden box. Not only would it save
lots of money, but everything would rod away. The worms and bugs could get
in and eat and all that good stuff. 50 years later we could use the grave
site all over again, and nobody would know the difference.

Actually, there is a better answer, if people would only realize it and
overcome their built-in prejudices. The solution? Cremation. It has several
advantages:
1. It puts the leeches who prey on the grieving families out of business,
almost. At least it removes the exorbitant profit margin from the sale of
coffins, cemetary plots, etc.
2. It saves tremendous amounts of prime real estate for the use of the
living. (Remember, they're not making any more!)
3. It's clean.
4. It saves years of maudlin sentimentality, running to flower shops and out
to cemetaries to "see dear old dad" or whoever.
As for me, if anybody wants to give me flowers and tell me how much they
love me, do it now while I can still smell, hear and return the sentiment.
THere's another nickle's worth, from the voice of experience.

Yes. It is sold in small spray cans, and is called something like play
string, fun string or some such. WHen the button is pressed, the substance,
propelled by CFC, comes flying out and can be strung on people, objects or
whatever is convenient.
It's really a stupid little toy, but who gives kids credit for having much
sense when it comes to fun?
It can be purchased at any Walgreen's, or I guess any toy store in the
valley as well. Enjoy while you blow holes in the ozone.

Chlorofluorocarbons are destroying our ozone layer, and absence of ozone

When the news folks on the T and V tell us how badly the air in Phoenix is

chlorofluorocarbons.

I'm all for cremation and the family gets to bring the ashes home in a
little jar to do with what they want. No burials, no tombstones, no
grave yards, no funeral homes and the rip off's they are noted for. If the
family wished, the ashes could be buried in the back yard or scattered over
a mountain somewhere or thrown away. If the deceased had no family - the
latter would apply. However, this is still a waste of good furtilizer!
Also, burial at sea is great. We'd be feeding the fish and there would be
nothing left after a few hours. Where did we (the human race) come up with
all this reverence for dead bodies? Why do we buy metal coffins so the body
is somewhat preserved for decades and the coffin will remain much longer? Or
worse yet - mosaleums (sp?) - huge slabs of cement? No matter what the
religion or lack of it no one believes there is anything in those bodies
other than dead decay and rot. So what the heck are we going to so much
trouble, expense - polluting the envirionment for? You got me!

Re: "'mechanical brakes' .... please elaborate"

Today all cars I know of have hydraulic brakes with some kind of assist like
vacuum. In the good ol' days the brakes were mechanical. A long metal rod
was connected to each brake drum and met together through a lever at the
brake pedal. The pressure require to make a sudden stop or lock up the
wheels was considerable. If the vehicle was heavy or if the drums got wet,
you had to literally stand on the brakes in an attempt to stop. Just before
I sold the Ford, there was only one drum working well. All American cars
switched over to the better safer hydraulic system in the early 40's.

Subject: Mechanical Brakes
Date: 08/09/89 Time: 12:39:14

Ford kept Mechanical brakes on all his cars up until 1939, long after the
other major manufacturers had switched. Hydraulic brakes had and still
suffer from the problem that if there is the smallest leak in the system,
you lose the whole brake system. On the other hand, hydraulics allowed a
lighter pedal pressure to stop a given weight of car.

By 1939, most American cars had passed the ton and a half gross weight mark,
and it took a lot more mechanical advantage to stop a car than in the days
when popular priced cars weighed around 2000 pounds.

The advantage of mechanical brakes was that any one or two brakes could fail
(usually because of wear or mis-adjustment) and the other wheels still had
"normal" braking power. As long as the cars were recent models and
maintained at an average rate, mechanical brakes stopped the cars of that
era with no problems. But with a 40-60 year old $15 junker, the odds of
having brakes in good adjustment with minimal mechanical wear were pretty
low. I had a Model A roadster in high School (a $25 car) that I had to
tighten the brakes everytime I got in the car. A $25 brake job was out of
the question.
Today I own two Model A's, with mechanical brakes in renewed and restored
condition, and so long as I observe speed constraints and traffic laws, They
are quite adequate to stop the car. But I remember the 50's when I had to
tighten the brakes before my girl friend's dad would let her get in the car
with me!

How about a buyer for a slightly used but none-the-worse-for-wear IBM PC
(not a compatible) with two 5 1/4" floppies, 256K RAM, covers, monitor and
disks? Only used every other Sunday by a little old lady who just drove it
to church. . . Leave me mail in the next two days.

(Quick!! Make a decision!!)

Everything in the universe is biodegradable. When a galaxy explodes
it has a habit of re-arranging everything.

Hot Dog, I agree with you. Can I watch you burn if you go first?
You can watch me burn if I go first? In fact, you'll probably watch me burn
forever, he-he, ha,ha, ho, ho.

No, I did not say that Channel 8 gave a specific reason for the recent
terrorist attacks. If you would re-read my original post you would notice
that my first two paragraphs were in the form of serious questions. In my
third (I believe) paragraph I admitted that I did not know the reason why
some people are so very mad at us. There are a lot of theories and I just
named two of them.
Channel 8 did show some CIA activities (declassified) from the Eiserhower
Administration to the Kennedy-Johnson Administration. We surely have made a
lot of people mad at our government, plus caused MANY deaths according to
the show in point.
Perhaps you struck out at my message because I basically stated that
the human animal does not have enough intelligence to bring about peace at
this time. Well, it's certainaly a true statement as I don't see peace.
All I see is more military spending and more harsh laws against peoples
basic freedoms. Perhaps the word, 'intelligence' was not a good choice on
my part. Humans have a certain amount of it but also a tad bit too much
cruelity and greed.
My message was to point out (most everyone here and on talk shows
just wanted to NUKE Iran) that no one is blameless. No one is an innocent
lamb and all of the facts are not know by us. We are spoon-fed that which
is allowable by government. I don't believe we should nuke anyone. I think
most of the world is morally corrupt and the U.S. is no exception. Look at
our government, the CIA and IRS. If they don't treat the American people
fairly would you think they treat foreigners more fairly than us? -Rod
