That's better! I knew you wern't as radical as you sounded. Everyone should
be behind their choice and it is obvious you are. Actually, I envy you in a

Why is it that you always think that what I say is 'silly' - but everything
you say is 'profound and deep'? You did not give an answer at all - you just
said the 'Supreme Court' made those decissions. True, but if it wasn't
popular with the majority, why would they? Isn't the purpose of the Supreme
Court to be 'fair mediators? To take in all sides and then make a decission?
I wasn't aware they were an intity all in themselves that ruled this country
like dictators? My point was - the Republicans couldn't or wouldn't do
anything about these subjects while in office - why would they now? You are
also missing the point of me not liking either party - I just told Cliff my
opinion that I thought Dukakis put on a better show. I am not 'gung ho' on
the Libertarian party at this point either but I want to show that I am
really not for either party and that I want changes. Why is this so hard for
you to understand? And why do you think I'm being so 'silly'? Isn't this why
people vote? =*--ANN--*=

The Supreme Court doesn't take into account what the majority wants, nor are
they supposed to. But they are also not supposed to act as a
"super-legislature," enacting laws according to their whim. They are simply
supposed to decide cases according to existing law and the highest law of
the land, the Constitution.
Quit being silly.

Subject: Cars
Date: 08/20/88 Time: 17:01:44
In 1984, Car and Driver had a position open for a reviewer/writer, and in
due course a man by the name of "Alf Ader" was hired. The bearded,
bespectacled Ader was assigned to review the new Chevrolet Corvette. The
issue with Ader's review was almost ready to go when senior editors realized
the review was not at all what they wanted. Suspicious, the approached
"Ader" and ripped off his beard and glasses. It was Ralph Nader. He was
quickly shown the door and his review was replaced with another.
THE NEW CORVETTE -- THE MOST IRRESPONSIBLE DEATHTRAP EVER
By Alf Ader
You'd think that after thirty years of turning out dangerous, poor
quality, inefficient, socially irresponsible "Corvettes," Chevrolet would at
last start building something better. But apparently Chevrolet, GM, and the
entire automobile industry, as well as all other industries, are content to
defraud the American consumer and make him or her believe that they are
getting what they want. The 1984 Corvette is worse than ever, and it is an
insult to right-thinking safety-minded utilitarian consumers everywhere.
I personally had been hoping that the '84 Corvette would be a form of
cheap, practical public transportation. However, the redesign still allows
only for a driver and one passenger, rather than the fifty or more
passengers that ideally would be carried.
Looking beyond the car's configuration for a moment, the styling,
though admirable in one respect, leaves a great deal to be desired. On the

plus side, the '84 model is more aerodynamic, which means that it will burn
less of the pollutive and diminishing fossil fuels. However, not nearly
enough care is taken to ensure that the styling is functional and safe.
There are wide expanses of unprotected body panels that could have been
covered in reflectors, warning lights, and impact-absorbing bumpers.
The car's performance is dangerous and unsuited to normal driving. The
enging has far too much power; a four-cylinder unit would have been
sufficient to propel the car at up to fifty-five miles per hour, or some
lower speed for greater economy and safety. The complicated suspension
system encourages the driver to maneuver recklessly, and the breaks, if
applied too suddenly and forcefully, could cause the car to jerk to a halt.
The interior shows evidence of slipshod and malicious design as well.
Upon sitting in the '84 Corvette, one is immediately struck by the lack of
roof supports. In the event of a skyscraper toppling over onto the car, the
occupants would have little chance of survival. Reinforced concrete beams
would take care of this, but unfortunately Chevrolet is still cutting
corners. The seats allow for dangerous amounts of unsupervised bodily
motion, and the seat belts could easily be ignored by stupid people. The
driving position is hampered by blind spots and controls that could be
confusing to a blind person. The actual operation of the car is complicated
and could result in an injurious accident by someone unfamiliar with
driving.
In addition to the faults listed above, the car emits noxious fumes,
wastes fuel, costs too much, and will probably fall apart once you get it

off the showroom floor.
It was a fond hope of this reviewer that 1984 would see the debut of a
reflectorized rubber, sixty-passenger, ten-mile-per-hour,
handicapped-accessible Corvette, but as usual, GM has let America down. I
recommend that no one buy this car.

From 53780: Reagan could only appoint justices when one resigned or died,
and as Bork demonstrated, sometime had difficulty even then.
I don't know how I could put it any simpler. The only other recourse Reagan
had was a Constitutional amendment, and those are nearly immpossible to
pass, even when the weight of public opinion is behind them (such as the
balanced budget amendment). That's why the ones we have are the result of
long struggles.

If they will throw out Jerry Falwell (Ann: no D in there, unless it stands

then I will vote a straight ticket.
But not much chance. I will say here, though, that I am not too thrilled
with Bush's choice - even if my daughter and son-in-law *did* go to school
with him in their Jr. year. I can't envision him as our Commander/in/Chief.
But nothing could persuade me to vote for the Democratic ticket...so, here

Lets not hope that Bush dies... I mean no "Death Wishes" here!
He is just a bit younger than Kennedy was, and no one thought of him as
"weak". I do recall back then when Senator John Kennedy was running, many
were concerned he was too young. He quickly proved he could handle the job,
and those were happy day till he was shot. Give the new guy on the block a

Also note that he is only five years younger than Jesse Jackson, and has
considerably more elective experience -- yet no one at the Democratic
Convention stood up and said Jesse was unqualified (they may have thought
it, but they didn't say it).
Quayle's youth is a positive addition to the ticket. Now, if the media
would just lay off him, maybe we could talk issues (fat chance).
