I listened to Bush's speech last night and will admit it was an excellent
one and he does have more charisma and confidence than I expected. The
people seemed to be impressed and it was obviously what they wanted to hear
from the candidate of their choice but may I point out some of the issues?
Re: abortion - he claims the republicans are against it and the democrates
are for it! Not so! They have nothing to do with it - the people vote on
that and that's what they want! Same with prayer in school! The same with
gun laws. If Dukakis was in there - regardless of his personal belief's - we
would still have the right to have them because that's what the people want.
Ditto the lax laws regarding letting criminals out too soon or at all. The
people and only the people could do something about that! Taxes? Ha - that's
a joke! No matter who gets in office - the taxes will be raised whether the
president wants it or not. We are not voting for these things - but for a
man that has the same opinion that you have and can only hope he will help
to change at least some of them! Reagan did some good things - but hardly
what his campain speech promised and it will be the same with the next
president! As you no doubt know - I am for abortion - letting individuals
decide and I am not for prayer in school! If any one wants to say a quiet
prayer before school starts - fine, but why does that have to be a major
issue? What has praying have to do with going to school? (except perhaps
praying you pass you finals? Ha.) The majority of the people do not want it
or we would have it! =*--ANN--*=

I do not like the smear campain the rep. are starting here. That comic book
was tasteless. With someone like Jerry Faldwell behind them - that's scarey
enough to make people vote democratic! It seems the underlying message of
the Rep. is that they are good and Dem. are evil. If Bush managed to keep
all his campain promises - this country would be set back 20 years! He is
running on a platform that is 'old and tired'! Whether we like it or not -
this is a new generation with different ideals than even our parents. Times
have changed! Good or bad - that is a fact! He sounds like he is trying to
press his moral values on everyone. I always suspect anyone that does that.
At least Dukakis comes across as being a little bit human. Bush makes
himself sound like an angel! =*--ANN--*=

The hectic schedule of the "liesurely retired class" does not allow me the
luxury of spending hours sitting in front of my TV for anything as mundane
and boring as political conventions, especially when the outcome of both was
foreordained, so the answer to your question is no, I did not watch either
circus in it's entirety.
As to your statement, or inference, born out of the depth of your
ignorance, please be informed that I have NEVER, since the first year I
became eligible to vote, voted a "straight" ticket. Also, your
generalization that "if you are for the Democrats, you are for baby killing"
is ludicrous, uncalled for and unconscionable. (You'll probably have to look
that one up in your dictionary, or ask your darling wife what it means.)
I stated in my last message that I was against abortion on demand, but one
cannot find an ideal ticket, platform or party, so must, at least at this
time in history, accept the offering of what could be considered the lesser
of two evils. I just don't happen to think that middle America can stand 4
more years of Reaganomics, or of his clone. Quayle may be, for all intents
and purposes, a fine young man, but I hardly think that he has shown the
qualifications for the power he seeks. Bush, in spite of all he is doing to
quash the image, is still a wimp, with an almost total lack of charisma or
personality. In the most powerful office of the land, good intentions are
hardly enough. At this point in time, after 8 years of Reagan's lies and
faux pas, there is noone who can say that the tax rate will not rise, so
whoever makes it in Nov. is going to shoulder the blame. If the Dems get in,
it will just be more equally divided, with the rich paying their share.

Nick, I have never "fluffed off" my opinions on abortion, or anything else,
as you well know. I am, and always have been, against abortion on
demand. Which political party endorses or condemns it has little or nothing
to do with my opinions. My leaning toward the Democrats is based on a lesser
of two evils foundation, because, frankly, I am not impressed with either
bunch. Or with any of their candidates. I'm, just sick of Reagan's attacks
on the working people of America for the benefit of the ruling upper class.
With all their faults, it's time for a change.

How about "We will never deal with terrorists!"? Somehow, Oliver North
(who Reagan has called "an American hero") never heard that speech.

I wonder if the Republicans are getting into a situation similar to what
the Democrats were in in 1984. Although the Mondale/Ferraro ticket pleased
many powerful and vocal segments of the party, they were unacceptable to the
more moderate Democrats, who went for Reagan.
Now, the Republicans have come up with Bush/Quayle, which pleases the more
conservative segments of that party, but I wonder how they'll play with the
moderate Republicans and Democrats.
The problem with the moderates is that they don't protest and picket and
write angry letters to their representatives, but many of them do vote.
Under this situation, they are often ignored during the campaign. But if
they are ignored, they may vote for the other candidate.
I have heard that many of the conservatives are upset with Quayle's
valiant defense of Indiana from the Red Menace back in the late '60s. I'm
not quite sure what to make of it myself, but I do know that Quayle had
better not try to gloss over it, for if he tries, the press will eat him
alive.

This is a story about * POWER * days. The first power day was
obviously 1/1/1 and could really be felt at 1:1:1 O'clock. Before the
advent of recorded time, all days just ran together, same o, same o.

The very first year was really 'bonus city' because just ten
short days later, came 1/11/1, again at precisely 1:11:1 it could
really be felt, needless to say.

Again in the eleventh month, the first day, we had ll/l/1 and to
surprise all, ten days after 11/11/1, incomprehensible, dudes.
Needless to say, that first year was heavy duty. A minor power day in
that first year would have to also include 3/2/1 but wouldn't be near
as strong as 1/2/3, taking place in our third year of recorded time.

Our second year brought us 2/2/2 and again 2/22/2 with the minor
being 4/3/2. Only two major power days and one minor in the entire
year, compared to four major and one minor in the previous year.
Needless to say, grapes that were harvested for wine didn't turn out
quite as good in the year two so avoid that year if possible.

Our next year brings us 3/3/3 which is pretty good because now
we are dealing with some heavier numbers here. Of course, as
mentioned earlier, 1/2/3 is the minor. People didn't much pay
attention to 5/4/3 because nothing happened on that day. Score: Four
major power days in the first year, two in the second and only one in
the third. See what is happening here, why things seem to be going
down hill? The power days are spreading further and further as our
numbers are getting larger, they are coming less often.

RECOMMENDATION: We should start time over again, giving us all
those needed power days and in that way, win a lot of money playing
the Arizona Lottery.

better in my opinion. At least half of what Bush said, I didn't
believe - the other half I don't agree with nor want changed. Got a question
for you - the Republicans have been in office for eight (8) years - how come
abortion is still legal if they are so against it? How come the cost of
living still goes up each year and has for the last eight? And why on earth
do you think the Democrats are so evil? Isn't that over reacting?
Personally, who ever does get into office - I want to be able to respect the
president no matter what party he belongs to. Don't you feel that way also?
If either party keeps half their campaign promises, this will be a better

There's a few silly points in both this and your last message. You said the
people decided against prayer in school and for abortion. That's not the
case -- the Supreme Court decided. I believe the people should decide, and
many Republicans agree (a few, however, want the Supreme Court to decide
their way -- and that's as silly as the liberal activism).
That also explains why Roe v. Wade still stands. Reagan could only appoint
justices when one resigned or died, and as Bork demonstrated, sometime had
difficulty even then.
Why does the cost of living keep going up? Because we haven't completely
wrung inflation out of the economy. But the rise is trivial in comparison
to the double-digit inflation and 20% prime rate of the Carter years.
The Democrats approach to economics simply doesn't work. I believe they are
sincere, but their Keynesian policies invariably bring economic violence,
and that always hits those who can least bear it -- poor, minorities,
struggling families -- the hardest. Good intentions don't bring a good
economy; sound policies do. Michael Dukakis doesn't not offer any.
Vote Libertarian if you like. But be very aware that the Democratic party
is against the vast majority of libertarian principles. The Republican
party's disagreements exist, but they are much less important.

Gary, John Kennedy was 43 and had less experience in Congress than Dan
Quayle does. Quayle is certainly fit to step in the Presidency should
anything happen, and his fitness will increase the longer he is able to
observe President Bush's actions.
As for the National Guard issue: first, Quayle needs to bring to light any
information he has concerning preferential treatment. So far, however,
there is not a shred of evidence that he was pushed ahead of anyone to get
into the Guard. Then he should say that in 1969, Vietnam was a brutal war,
already so thoroughly bungled that hardly anyone was speaking of winning it,
and most were talking about just getting out without a major loss of
prestige and lives of South Vietnamese. To serve in Vietnam in 1969 was to
serve in a futile act to "get out with honor." President Nixon was already
beginning to pull out troops. Quayle should say that he did not want to go,
and at that age, he would do anything he could to avoid going to Vietnam
-- short of dodging the draft. He did not go to Canada, nor (as McCain
pointed out) find a doctor to declare him unfit, nor join the Peace Corp (as
Bruce Babbitt did). He was willing to go, but wanted to do all he could to
avoid it while still serving his country
There is no shame in what Quayle did. The shame is in how he is handling
it, and that needs to change.

I do not think the Democrats are "The Evil Empire".. I just get
carried away, cheering my team! (joke) I NEVER agreed with ALL of Mr
Reagans policies, nor did I disagree with all John Kennedy's policies!
Do you guys remember the "Bay of Pigs".... I was working at Ralph B.
Simon's Assc. when it came over the radio. I recall the military people
cheering (at that time it had not failed yet). Sure was quiet the next day
at work...
David answered Ann's questions quite well indeed....

All I can add is that I am a REPUBLICAN and I am not ashamed that my
party is not afraid to speak of God and pleadge allegance to our Flag. I am
pleased they feel the same way about Abortion as I do ... These issues may
not interest you, and that is your right. I also do not believe the answer
to all social problems is $MONEY$. I feel MOST rich people pay thier fair
share and more....

Alan, Mr Reagan was found innocent of what you charge... you just
speculate as to what you want to believe.

Ann, I will be loyal to whom ever wins as President. Unlike some
people, I respect the office and uniform. I was brought up in a military
family. But I will still vote for whom I want as Commander and Chief.

Thinking people everywhere are aware this world will end in the
year 1999. I have given this problem a lot of thought over my life
time and have come to the following solution.
Renumber, yes, that's it, renumber our current date system thus
delaying this dreaded end of the world spectacular. This method would
also delay the Greenhouse effect that is upon us. By the year 2025
this planet will be uncomfortably hot, the water from the newly melted
ice will claim the lowlands and boat sales will be up. Invest in
boats. Renumbering can delay all future predictions indefinitely.
This here message is my humble contribution to the world.
                        A thinking man's thinker,

If it was not for war, our current technology would be no where
near what it is today. For instance, we may not have the common place
television or even the telephone, man would not have made a moon
landing as of this date.
War is good, it creates jobs of many descriptions. Look at our
current technology in body bags, brushed aluminum caskets, state of the
art bombs and chemical weaponry.
Whoever said, "War Is Not Healthy For Children And Other Living
Things", should think again, because without it, our medical procedures
would be no where near advanced as they now are. Thank God for war, I
guess He knows what He is doing after all, that is why we have so many
of them. Enjoy war and all of its benefits and bask in the glory
thereof, amen.
                        War for Peace,

Just once, I'd like to hear a candidate say, "My opponent is a
swell person, I just think I have a better team."
"Yes, I avoided the military, as I would all brutality. Who in
their right mind wants to slaughter or be slaughtered? There are
certainly better ways to solve problems than with voilence, besides we
need our youth here at home in order to build a great nation".
"Sure I tried pot and it wasn't half bad."
"I've had more than one bed partner in my life and I'm proud of
it."

I think all candidates should be given a lie detector test, just
as potential Circle K employees are given. It should be done on live
television. It is called, "Know Your Candidate".

My wife, Jasmine, does not like either the Democrat or
Republican candidate. She says, "They are always putting each other
down". Oh well, I guess it takes character not to slander or verbally
abuse others. This country was founded, in part, on a little mud
slinging, so why change now. Sort of like the wrestling matches on
tv, I suspose.

I'm all for the different sigs. - different stories. But I really don't see
what is wrong with a political type story here? Cliff - it would be fun to
do so - we could all incorporate our political stands into the story - of
course, using the members of Apollo as the main characters. No blood & guts
or sex! The candidates would supply us with endless topics to choose from
almost daily. Comment? =*--ANN--*=
P.S. Of course, it will just be my luck that every member here is a
Republican! hahahaha

Yea, but writing about politics brings out such items as graft,
corruption, deception, briberies, backstabbing, falsehoods, lying,
brutality, and stepping on toes (to name a few).

Don't you think it would be hard to write a 'nice' story about such
a 'soiled' subject?

You should be a Republican too. The only hope libertarian principles have
are to become further incorporated into Republican stands.

I wouldn't be here 'cept I was woken up by crickets all over my face. My
room has an adobe brick wall with several holes which allow for entry. Even
if the house were sprayed, which it is not, I'm still suceptible to attack
by all sorts of desert demons. About a month ago I knocked what I thought
to be a cockroach off of my leg. It was a scorpion. Damn bugs.

Maybe I'll go sleep in the living room. Not much chirping coming from that
vicinity.

Could you possibly list the "hardcore" cuss words we aren't suppose to use,
