My motorcycle trip was very enjoyable, even though I had a flat tire
(fortunately an overnight leak while parked), had to replace part of the
alternator ($210 !!), and then had another problem caused by the alternator
fix - but this was only a misrouted hose that got kinked. Replaced for $5
labor. I traveled about 2200 miles, including the round trip to LA where we
started/ended.
I didn't take along any music this year (had a portable CD player the last
two years) and I really didn't miss it. Strange.

Seems Bush is not as "conservative" as he claims to be. Sources (reliable)
close to me say that George and Barbara, in celebration of Quayle's
nomination, invited him over to "celebrate" (read: THREESOME). However,
Quayle declined, preferring (conservatively) to sit at home and jerk off.
His reasoning?

Hebrews 4:15 states, in part, that Christ was in all points tempted like as
we are, yet without sin.
The "God made flesh" truth concerning Christ is expounded in the 1st chapter
of John's Gospel, in which He is referred to as "The Word" who was with God
from the beginning, and who was God, and who was made flesh and dwelt among
us.
As to what we "fear" from the movie, I would say nothing, for, according to
Paul's letter to Timothy, God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of
love, power and a sound mind.
I do not see any real inconsistency with fundamental Christianity and the
offense taken with a film that portrays the Lord f all glory as a weak,
wimpy man and a sinner like the rest of us. I do agree with you, however,
that far too much outcry over the film has been raised, and has caused an
overkill that has created more interest in the movie than it has anything
else. I'm sure that Universal will fatten their coffers mightily, thanks to
the "religious right".

How about the part about not allowing us sinners to sin the way we want to?
How does the picketing and trying to close the theaters reconcile with

I was also impressed with last nights convention as I was with the
Democratic one also. That's what they are for - to stir you up and encourage
you to vote for that party. Reagan's been in office for 8 years and never
gave a speech that good! That got me to wondering - is Reagan running again?
It sure sounded like it and where was Bush? Is Reagan the 'John the Baptist'
of Bush? (preparing the way?) He certainly made our economy sound good. I
just wonder why it is becoming harder and harder to make a living?! Why it
cost more for groceries - rent- automobiles. Why he made it sound positively

Last night after the convention, I was flipping the channels and came across
good 'ole' Jerry Faldwell talking to two other guys - I assumed it was
supposed to be a two sided debate of sorts and I don't know who the other
guest was - but Faldwell certain did all the talking - was outright rude and
so smug and rightious. They were discussing Dukakis, that comic book
Faldwell's son published, abortion and that movie. This man has no regard
for anyone's opinion but his and he cannot see where that slanderous comic
book, passed out at the Rep. convention last night was 'NOT' separating
church and state! Evidently the comic more than hinted that Dukakis has
sodomy with beasts! Even he would not deny it. This is a religious man? He
also torn that movie to threads -- said we need to get back to a Christian
nation - prayer in schools and no abortions. His opponant pointed out that
the people voted on these subjects - that's what they want and he sloughed
it off saying' they did not. By the way - the reason he accused Dukakis of
sodomy was because he wanted to make it legal saying "he must like it or he
wouldn't want it"! How people in their right mind can follow a person like
this is beyond me. I wished I could have seen all of that program - it was
unbelievable! =*--ANN--*=

The figures are in for the first weekend's showings of "The Last Temptation
of Christ". The film grossed over $400,000 in nine theatres, for a
per-screen average of over $44,000. For comparison, the previous weekend's
top film, "Cocktail", had a per-screen average of about $5,700. TLToC has
set a per-screen record for Universal.

Everywhere people like you are blaming Reagan for spending he would have
prevented if he had been given the line item veto. Congress authorizes
spending and then bundles it all together so that it can not be trimmed
without shutting down the whole government. Reagan`s policies increased
revenue while lowering taxes and stimulating the economy. This would have
brought the budget into balance if Congress hadn't spent an extra $1.50
for every dollar of new revenue that came in. Put the blame where it belongs
and you will see that without Reagan's policies of the past seven years we
would have been much worse off than we are now. The job that remains to be
done is to cut spending and bring back sound money. You will never hear the
Democrats planning to do anything of the sort.

Note..... The category is entertainment, not religion:
My problem with the movie and the protestors is that someone out there
wants to take away my choice to see whatever movie I want to. Jeannie,
I like your attitude.
I will got to a church of my choice to listen to sermons and learn about
my faith.
I don't expect to tell anyone what church to go to, if any, or what to
believe or disbelieve. Nor do I xpect that anyone should be able to
affect my choices in the matter.
By the same reasoning, I don't tell any one what movies to see or stay
away from, nor do I expect anyone else to dictate to me about my choices
of entertainment.
I'll see the movie when it comes to town or is issued in video cassette,
just as I wish or not, and I'll oppose any group, private or governmental,
that tries to shut down the theaters or video stores so that I don't have
that choice.

I agree, what if we were to arrange a demonstration/picket outside of a
church, because religion has adversely affected the lives of some people?
Like people who have killed others because they claim that God told them to?
Could you imagine the stink that would be made about trampling on freedoms?
Anyhow, I've heard some of the people who have seen the movie say that the
film re-affirmed their faith. If nothing else, the movie is making a lot of
people that haven't thought about God in a while, start doing so. Are the
picketers against an increased awareness in their Lord and Saviour?

The answer to your question is simple, Jeannie.
The same society that allow you the right to see what you want to see also
allows the religious people who may be offended by a movie to picket the
theater in a peaceful manner.
Such picketing is informational, or an expression of opinion. You are not

Robert Redford was brought about by the MEDIA in his 1980 Senate campaign,
and is a joke (humor Ann) and not to be taken serious.
Have you noticed the Republicans are not afraid to speak up about their
ideals on Prayer, Pledge to the Flag and other things. Did you catch the
scam of the Democratic convention that they should keep quiet on the tax
issues, gun issues. In fact, just what did they talk about! Not a damn
thing!
The speech by Reagan was not full of lies as one kindly person put it.
Seems he forgets about double digit inflation that happened under Peanut
Breath. Inflation that has hurt us badly and its effects are felt today in
high prices. But with Reagan we have; High employment today, FACT! A slow
inflation rate today, FACT!
I did not say Reagan never made mistakes... BUT, we all make mistakes

my new address, send me mail in the Post Office by Friday afternoon.
I'll still be in Phoenix periodically, and I'll make sure I login here every

I suppose they work very hard for their money, but we only talk of
such things on the COSmos SIG....
Sorry.... I couldn't resist.
Also let's get something straight here...it is the DEMOCRATS that wish to
TAKE all our money away in the form of TAXes to give to the lazy poor and
people that want abortions.
Sell your computer and modem... Take the money and feed the poor
people that don't wish to work for it... then report back to us and I will
be impressed.

Dukakis claims he will help Americans. That he will help families to
care for their young children. The price tag on his program is the same as
George Bush's. But Dukakis, in classic New Deal style, plans to help by
establishing a new bureaucracy -- a quick glance at what he's done in (or
TO) Massachusetts demonstrates this clearly. By the time young mothers
fight their way through the inevitable forms and red tape, their kids won't
need day care, they'll need tuition for college. This is true of all of the
gifts the Governor of Taxachusetts promises -- not real solutions, unless
you're a bureaucrat in need of a high-paying job.
Michael Dukakis said this election is about competence, not ideology.
But it really is about both. Dukakis is clearly a liberal, though he
doesn't want to admit it, and his management in Massachusetts has been far
from the success he claims. George Bush brings both, however. He brings
the tested and powerful ideas of the Reagan Revolution, and he brings a
tested and powerful competence as a businessman, an administrator, and a
courageous leader.
In 1984, the Republicans told us that it was morning in America. The
Democrats tell us that it is now night. But it is really high noon. This
election is possibly the most important since the Second World War, and it
will determine America's course well into the next century. The next
President will face a Soviet Union which will be changing internally, in
some direction, and will have a changing relationship with America. He will
appoint at least one, and possibly as many as four, Justices to the Supreme
Court during his four or eight years -- and they will be deciding whether it

it is the victims or the criminals who deserve the most legal protection.
He will deal with the new social problems of the baby boomers, and, if he
has foresight, with how we expect to pay Social Security to all of them in
the next century. The education of their children also must be high on the
agenda, and whether that education will be of high quality, and whether it
will include values basic to a free society. He will deal with a changing
Europe, moving toward a truly common market, and with an Pacific Basin
weathering the full spectrum of growing pains -- from Vietnam, still part of
the third world, to Japan which is showing signs of decline in relative
economic power in the region. He'll also have the older problem: a world
where the majority of the people do not live in freedom, and he must decide
how (and whether) to help them to reach that freedom, while protecting our
freedom at home.
On top of all of that, he will face an economy which is in the awkward
position of being TOO good, and is in danger of overheating and becoming
inflationary. Moreover, somewhere out there lurks the business cycle, which
means we will probably have a recession during the next four years. How
severe and how long-lived that recession is depends greatly on the ability
of the man in the Oval Office, and those whom he appoints (personally, I
would feel much better with someone in there whose education is in
economics, rather than government and law.) He will confront all of these
problems, and our decision is whether we want those problems faced by
someone continuing, expanding and improving on Ronald Reagan's policies, or
returning us to the malaise of Jimmy Carter-style liberalism.

Deanna, if you want to know why there are so many struggling,
working class people, then look to the military governments of the
world. The U.S. alone, spends trillions of dollars on state-of-the-
art weaponry and much of it doesn't even perform properly. You could
say that we humans like to do things the easy way and making war is
relatively easy compared to making peace. Einstein said, "You cannot
simultaneously prevent and prepare for war." Well, we have been
preparing for it since before I was born and we have spent trillions,
enough, in fact, to have eliminated all poverty in the world.
I feel that you are not looking for handouts, just a fair shake
in this society, as I am. But when the greedy capitalistic landowners
and their banks and finance companies get a hold of you, you are
generally committed for life, until the day you die. We live in a dog
eat dog world, a rat race, if you will, there is no denying this.
Please don't sell your computer or modem because with them you
can do far more good than getting a few bucks, they wouldn't last a
week. Your computer is a large part of the future of this world.

With it you can write, make banners, poetry, music and you can
save it all for later use.
Methinks we landed on the wrong planet or at least in the wrong
times. The phrase, "Might is Right" keeps popping into my gulliver,
that seems to say much in these times.
If your father fails to meet his house payments because of a
failing economy, your family will be physically moved onto the streets
by the Sheriff. Of course most anyone reading this on Apollo will
think this really does not happen or that it is so far removed from
their daily lives that it doesn't take space in their brain. Oh
well.
As long as we have these out of control war machines, the poor
will always be with us but if and when we humans come to our senses,
our problems can literally vanish overnight.
What fun?
