How many of you dorks with sleek aerodynamic automobiles are still driving
around with your FRONT license plate still bolted on? If so...take it off,
they are no longer needed. Your car will look better and get better gas
mileage (minor, but it adds up at high speed) with out it! Besides, why
advertise, numbers are killing our privacy.

I personally think that it is discriminating to have an old fart GT. What
about us 'Kids' coming anyways... What did we do to you old farts anyways?

What about ten years from now when us 'KIDS' are running this country, and
we decide that all old farts should be shot, by THEIR OWN ROBOT! And then
we just send the bodies up to space in the NASA Shuttle Columbia XXII...

Then What are the OLD FARTS GOING TO DO!!!!!

WELL...????? ANY OLD FARTS CARE TO COMMENT?

ANY 'Kids' want to help me out...? Pat?

I last had front license plates on my car in 1977, when it occurred to me
that the cops used them to their advantage. I received two tickets in 11
years for no front license plate. The first time, I lied to the cop and told
him that the plate was stolen. He went on to tell me that lying to a police
officer was a crime. He then wrote me the ticket. The second time, the cop
asked me why I didn't have a front plate, and I told him "because I don't
like them." He then wrote me a ticket.

That was because they were still required, silly!
The legislature passed a resolution just a couple of weeks ago that dropped
the requirement, so you may now remove your front plate with immunity. Go
for it!

On the front of my car I have a special plate - it's not a real one, just
looks like it and it says 'Zoltan' - which is the name of my car. I got
stopped before the law went into effect for having two different plates. He
could not write me a ticket because my car is a salvage job and as long as I
had the messed up plate in the car (It was in the trunk) they cound not give
me a ticket. I felt very smug that day! =*--ANN--*=

Last night I left work and across the street I saw a hysterical woman
surrounded by three or four cops. She was yelling at them, "I want to go
home to my child!" and "Why don't you leave me alone?" I guessed she was
either high on drugs or insane. I watched for a while, and asked another
spectator (10 people or so gathered on my side of the street) what was
happening. It turned out this lady was being given a ticket for riding her
bicycle through a red light, though according to one witness she had crossed
the street legally. She continued arguing with the cops, and more showed
up: at one point there were two motorcycles, two regular police cars, and
one unmarked car. Finally she was given a ticket and the cops left and she
crossed the street. She asked if anyone had a camera, and as it happened, I
had one up in my office. She wanted me to take some pictures of her bloody
hand, which had been wounded when the officer yanked her arm and cut her
finger on her bike. I told her to get to a hospital and have it checked
out, and to call her lawyer as soon as possible.

These are Capitol Police, incidentally, so your tax dollars are paying for
them. I just thought you'd like to know that your money is being

Isn't it wonderful that they have all the gangs and pushers under control
now, so that they can spend their time on the really important things, like
harrassing little ladies for jaywalking?
The last I heard, it's a wonder they didn't take her into protective
custody, since it's not really safe to walk the streets of D.C. alone.

Sounds like it's a toss-up between the danger of being alone with the

Visitors from other countries (especially Japan) are shocked that the
streets of our capitol city are not safe.

She wasn't jaywalking. Jaywalking is apparently legal in D.C. She was
accused of running a red light on her bicycle. A friend of mine at work put
it in perspective. "At least," he said, "that woman wasn't out raping or
killing anyone during that time."

Your printer will probably under line -- if you tell it too. You have to
have a program (driver) that will underline. Have you ever seen anything
underlined on Apollo? No! Why not? This program will not support it.
Your problem (with underlining that is) should be taken up on MS- SIG.

Computers and peripherals donot respond to verbal pleas nor do they
understand flying the bird, idle threats or users throwing temper tantrums
at them.
They do, however, respond to physical abuse in a very negative way.
Failing all else, satisfaction can be derived from a stubborn unit using

Nick is Apollo's 'Father Sarduchi'! He hears all confessions and will give
you absolution of your sins. This way, we are all pure and sinless!

P.S. The reason you think this board is mild - is because Rod is gone on
vacation! When he gets back, all hell will break lose. In the mean time, you
seem to be fitting right in fellow.

Well, Ann, you asked for it.
I'm not much of an artiste with the ol'
keyboard, but after due reflection and
introspection, this is a fair representation __________
of the Jones family jewels. /

I think the matter can be stated thus: / /
At my age it doesn't get hard anymore | |
so much as it gets fat. | |

No, sorry. That won't do. It's looking at the floor! Everyone on this board
knows I like them 'rocket like' - long, sleek, with powful thrust that can
go off at anytime! Now James Wawley has a rocket that I've seen shoot off!
WOW! It was impressive. Cliff had a smaller version that day, but it
couldn't be 'charged' properly so he didn't even attempt a blast off. But
according to Sandy, it is very impressive when it does! However - that was a
fairly good drawing and I want to encourage you to draw on the art sig.
BUT please don't attempt one on that subject or you'll end up in the 'ZONE'
quick. Nick is right - I do have multible boxes. Heh heh heh. =*--ANNIE THE

Cliff, get real. I have incredible wit and you know it, you twit. So eat
sh*t. Ann baby, the "flooded parking lot" you claimed to see was just a
puddle. I got the blonde so excited that she peed her pants. I guess I
just do that to women. It's very annoying. As for Rod, he's such a dork.
Let's put tranquilizers in his Gatorade, and shave off his beard and
eyebrows. Let's shave his whole damned head. Then we'll put him in some of
Jasmine's clothes, put toothpaste on his face and leave him in some bustling
metropolitan center of activity. Let's also tattoo "Mary Magdelene" on his
chest, that is after we shave it with month-old razors. Hell, let's
tranquilize the whole damned family and send them to Washington D.C. Then,
while they stay at JT's domicile, we'll clean the house and redecorate in
MINT and MAUVE scheme. We'll replace Rod's "Thank God I'm An Atheist" war-
drobe with Calvin Klein SPORT apparel and get Jasmine some cute lingerie.
send the kids to private schools where they have to wear the same thing
every day and answer to threatening authority figures. Meanwhile, Rod will
adopt Cliff and Sandy's children so the two SYSOPs can spend a
pleasure-filled vacation off the coast of Tiajuana. Then they'll go to
glorious L.A. where Cliff will be a contestant on Wheel of Fortune and Sandy
a contestant on Jeopardy. It will be a special day indeed. All proceeds
from Cliff and Sandy's winnings will go toward the improvement of Apollo.
Extra phone lines will be added with a special on-line "chat" feature. That
way the SYSOP's kids can show off all the nasty words Rod teaches 'em.
I will erase this message before Rod arrives. <- So Zak thinks.... ha ha ha

Funny?

    No!  I am not Prince Hamlet, nor was meant to be;
Am an attendant lord, one that will do
To swell a progress, start a scene or two,
Advise the prince; no doubt, an easy tool,
Deferential, glad to be of use,
    Politic, cautious, and meticulous;
    Full of high sentence, but a bit obtuse;
At times, indeed, almost ridiculous -
    Almost, at times, the Fool.

Inflatable??

I suppose one could either pump it up by hand, or have it blown up?

Oh well, guess I'd better keep what I've got.

Old and corny, I know, but all I could think of on the spur of the moment.

As for a political lie contest, aren't you sick of all that on

Taranto already pointed out that the amount of taxes paid by the rich went
up after the tax cuts. They also carried a bigger percentage of the tax
burden (however, the percent of their income going to taxes was less).
Alan, corporate income taxes shouldn't exist. They are double taxed, first
as corporate profits, then as dividends or salaries. Taxing corporations is
silly, and it is wounding the golden goose.

I do agree on corporate taxes. Since they just pass on the increases to
the customers, or cut worker's salaries to make up for it (rather than
cutting dividends or executive salaries) I agree that corporate income taxes
are useless.
My feeling is that taxes should hurt everyone equaly. If paying my tax
bill make me run the risk of bankruptcy, a person making $1 million should
also have his solvency threatened by *his* tax bill.

New Age Mysticism doesn't seem to provide the warm fuzzy feelings of
traditional religions. Is it that the fun of being part of a cult is
appealing? Does one immediately get girls and so on? Some have accused
atheists of hating God. Well, I don't hate God or Ramtha, or the Yeti.
It's just that I won't pretend that I believe in their existence. I've been
pretty stubborn in this regard. I rarely pretend that a girl fascinates me,
or that I "love" her in order to get into her pants, and frankly I don't "do
as well" as some guys I know who do. But, I do pretty well, and I feel that
I have had much better and longer relationships without the bullshit. And
it makes things so much easier - Again, as Twain said, "When you tell the
truth you don't have to remember anaything. However, this could all go out
the window if Raquel Welch asked me what sign I am.

I couldn't agree more with Alan Hamilton on taxes. It seems like
taxes, in order to be equitable, should penalize everyone to the
same degree. To tell someone living at subsistance wage that
it's fair to confiscate 15% of his income, and then let some one
else off the hook because he's got enough to invest in tax exempt
bonds is the heighth of unfainess.

Before somebody jumps on me about fairness, let me say that I
don't really expect fairness from government. It's an ideal to
work for, but life hasn't been exactly fair to anyone yet. In
addition to inherited wealth and property, it seems that humans
are also prone to inherit poor health, and of course, no
government has yet figured out a way to have us all born with
well-off parents.

Since life isn't fair, I guess we got to enjoy what we do have,
and keep on looking out for number one. If there's a little left
to spread around after that, it would be nice if we got the
opportunity to pick the way it gets spread around. Fat chance!

Observations:
Some people seem to get their jollies hassling others.
Others seem to live a life of continual confrontation. Every
breath appears to be a battle. They don't seem to be able to
cross the street without having to yell obscenities at someone,
or drive down the road without having to flip the bird at someone
else.

I've no use for people like that. I don't go out of my way to
mix with them, and as far as I'm concerned, their lives are a
constant work of fiction. Life doesn't need to be full of angry
pushing and shoving.

There's as much beauty in a sunset or a quiet moment as there is
ugliness in a person who hasn't learned to live with the others
on this planet. Too bad, guys, you're missing so much, in your

If you want blind faith to decide who heads your government then move
to a monarchy. A democratic republic functions because its citizens make an
informed choice in elections. Disregarding policies, experience, and past
achievement when voting is worse than not voting. At least if you left the
voting to people who had given some thought to what they were doing the
result would be what someone really wanted. Doing it your way you just
bumble on year after year throwing away your chance to vote in your own
behalf and then wonder why the result did not match your (undefined)
expectations.

I agree that our way of voting is the best in the world. However, voting
with 'informed choices' sounds nice, but I still say for the most part, is
voting for the lessor of two evils! Most politicians are not for the people
or our nation, but for themselves. To them, it's a super job with power! Be
informed all you want, but I doubt the next president will be anything
special. If he does turn out to be so, then I will get on the band wagon and
try to get him voted in again! I do vote - mainly write in's. This year it
will be libertarian. NOT because he's young, but because I would like to see
a few Libertarian ideas seep into our government is all.
What is your problem with the idea of a young president? We are constantly
voting for the aged because of their supposed experience. Experience yes -
but in the art of politics! We need new blood- inovative people that will
change things, not keep them the same or make them worse. People that are
genuinely interested in a better America, not their careers! Along comes
Michael Dukakis - a young, seemingly genuine - and who does he get for his
running mate? Bentson! An aged politician with a plastic face that
appears to have loads of charisma. His lips are pucked from kissing so many
babies over the years! He's an actor of the first class - just like Reagan!
This guy could concievablly be the president some day. I'll bet his smile
does not disappear when he goes to bed! Ugh! What fare we are being
provided! =*--ANN--*=

I have no problem whatsoever with a young President. I do have a problem
with the substitution of meaningless garbage like 'genuine' and 'new ideas'
for policies. When you apply the DuTaxUs formula to current conditions the
only possible result is disaster. Before you go around telling us to vote
for someone look at what he has done in the past and would do in the future.
Aside from being an economic disaster, Dukakis would also do everything in
his power to destroy your right to own a firearm and load his administration
and the courts with like minded statists.
Pay attention to ideology, not cosmetics. If self government fails and
departs from the planet it will be because of people who value any `new
idea` regardless of whether its really new, or an idea, or good, or bad.

Where on earth did you get the idea I was going to vote for Dukakis? Not so.
I'm going to vote Libertarian - if they are not on the ticket - then I will
write it in. I only mentioned that he was young(ish). What is your problem
with the word 'genuine'? I used that particular word to discribe politicians
that are for the people more than their careers. Few and far between, but
they are out there ---- somewhere. I felt that Kennedy was. I know I will
get opposition there, but that is my feelings. Carter probablly was, but he
was unsophisticated and was made to look like a fool by the press. Even
Truman was, but I certainly do not agree with all of his policies. F.
Roosevelt definately was. The latter and Kennedy were idolized by the people
and they felt safe/safer having people like that running this country. Will
you feel safe having Dukakis or Bush in the Oval office? Will you have
confidence in either? That is the point I was trying to make - not vote for
someone that is young or charismatic. That helps only to get their foot in
the door. See you. =*--ANN--*=

that smile could light up a room. He has a good sized following and seems to
be very well liked. He's been in politics for years. That's his career and
he puts on a good show of it. He was chosen (this is my opinion only) to off
set Dukakis's lack of charisma and youthfulness. Dukakis will get millions
of votes because Bentson is his running mate. So you won't get the wrong
opinion --- I don't like him in the least nor trust him. =*--ANN--*=

Where on earth did you get the idea that I got the idea that you were
going to vote for Dukakis? I explained your error in divorcing a
candidate's image from his political reality and since the course you
were advocating favored Dukakis, I mentioned some of the factors
that you SHOULD have been taking into account ahead of age.
As for my problem with the word 'genuine', I shall explain it. The word
genuine is an adjective. It is meant to help in describing something by
conveying some information about it. If I tell you that I have a genuine
Winchester Model 1400 12 gauge shotgun for sale for $180.00 (which I do
by the way), it means that it was really made by Winchester. If, on the
other hand, I say that Dukakis is genuine, what am I saying? Have I told
you anything, or have I just worked a favorable adjective into a sentence
about him without attaching any value judgement to be proven true or false?
If you had said that he was a genuine liberal or a genuine Massachusetts
Democrat or a genuine misplacer of violent prisoners, I would not have
quibbled with your use of the word in the least.
The Libertarians are on the ballot in Arizona and many other states, so
we will not have to write them in.

It looks like we are still trying hard to disgrace ourselves on the

Mecham again. Why can't they just let him pay it back like he is trying to
do and let it go at that? The state will probablly waste more than the
$80,000 they are suing for in trying for a vendeta! That money was given to

You should be able to tell that I am doing a lot more than just quibbling
about words here. To reduce it to that would be to sidestep the whole issue
of how our political system is supposed to function. I pointed out that you
were basing your favorable comments about Dukakis on a completely
meaningless misuse of a particular word. I did not mean that I wanted that
word stricken from the language, I meant that such misuse should be
recognized and given it's proper (null) value in political discourse.
If we happen to vote the same way I suspect that we will be doing it for
much different reasons. After seeing you casually throw reason out the
window (I throw it in a drawer) and advocate Wheel-Of-Fortune as a
replacement for self-government, I don't know that we are as close

OK, here's some comments:
The movie: it should not be censored, and the protesters are only defeating
their own cause. However, as one columnist pointed out, attacking the
founder of Campus Crusade for Christ for offering to buy all prints of the
movie as a "censor" is silly. He was offering a voluntary transaction.
Beyond that, I can't say much, because I haven't seen the movie.
The Circle K controversy: more silliness. It's obvious that an employer
should have the right to deny medical care for people who inflict the damage
on themselves.

By the way, I notice no one has mentioned the hike in the discount rate
(which, while unimportant in and of it self, signals higher interest rates)
and the subsequent hike in the prime. Did Greenspan make a good move? The
economy, to everyone's suprise, is doing good -- so good that economists
worry it might overheat and cause inflation. The best way to stop an
overheating economy is with a budget surplus, but that's unlikely, to put it
mildly. So a hike in rates is the next best thing. So if you want lower
rates, hope for bad economic news. But since that isn't likely either, then
a higher interest rate is a small price to pay to avoid the Great Satan of
inflation.

The people that are prepared to be offended should simply not go see it.
One thing I don't understand about the Circle K subject - why would they
hire a person with AIDS to begin with? Much less insure them? If an AIDS
vicim worked at my local Circle K - no one would do business there. Even
with all the education on the subject - people are still scared to death of
it. Right or wrong, that's a fact and Cicle K is in the business for the
money. It seems the news media is trying it's best to make them look like
unfeeling monsters. Perhaps they are - but they should have choices. I
certainly wouldn't want anyone to force an AIDS vicim to work for us and
have to insure them. That's a fast ticket to the poor house! =*--ANN--*=
P.S. Don't get me wrong - my heart goes out to any person that has ATDS -
I wouldn't be frightened to work beside them - assuming of course, they were
not in the infectious stage. But the insurance rates are already too high on
normal, healthy people. If we are paying a laborer $5 an hour and then had
to insure him for $2,000 or more a year ........ (That figure is probably
way low!)

Somewhere along the line, we quit comunicating re: this subject. Let me
clarify my points again ---- with the politicians we have today - it's like
going to the horse races and choosing who you will pick to win! You might
pick one that has a good past record of winning or you might even choose the
best looking - the youngest of the pack. You might choose the jockey
(running mate) also. But this does not guarantee you will pick a winner from
a pack of old, staid nags. Once in a while a 'Secratariat' or a 'Swaps' or a
'Nashua' comes along and the owner is a winner, the jockey is a winner and
the whole pack of betters are a winner and so are you! But you can also
choose to bet on the long shot!
I would like you to clarify why your method is better than this! And please
answer this - do you think we have that great of politicians right now? If
so - who and why do you think that way? From some of our past conversations,
both in person and here, I assumed you were voting Libertarian because you
were also tired of the same old thing. Forget 'genuine' OK? =*--ANN--*=

I don't think the issue is quite as simple as you've made it out to be,
David. Even if we grant that an employer has a right to refuse medical
coverage for self-inflicted injury, obviously not all AIDS cases fall into
that category. Further, what about cases of people who contracted AIDS
before they knew that it was a risk? Does that count as a "self-inflicted
injury"? What about people who contract it from spouses who have been
cheating on them? Do accidents which take place while engaging in risky
recreational activities (skydiving, skiing, for example) count as
"self-inflicted injuries"? After all, the people who engage in these
activities know there is a risk of injuy.

For that matter, Circle K does insure those people that smoke, which is
an activity that will lead to higher health risks. And don't forget people
that don't wash their hands before eating -- they are a health risk, too.
It just seems silly for Circle K to single out a single risky activity
when there are many more that they do cover. If they *really* want to save
money, why not have a policy that covers everthing except illness or injury.
That'd save a lot of money.
If you want to get really picky, they could consider working for Circle K
a hazard to an employee's health, since a convinence store clerk
(particularly on the night shift) runs a higher risk of injury than some
other occupations.

There were a pair of brothers. The older brother, John, was extremely
bright. He had graduated from high school with honors, finished college
after three years at age 21, completed his master's degree two years later,
and was almost done with his Ph.D. by age 25. His younger brother, Jed, was
four years younger. Jeb was somewhat above average in intelligence, but he
was an underachiever: he dropped out of high school in his junior year, and
had trouble holding a job.
John and Jed didn't get along well. John always taunted Jed saying
things like: "Look how many college degrees I have, and you're an ignorant
dropout." This drove Jed, who was emotionally unstable to begin with,
crazy. Several times they had come to blows over it.
When John had completed his Ph.D. thesis, and was about to go to the
graduation ceremony to pick up his degree, he really laid it on Jed. "You
worthless bum," he said, "I'm getting a Ph.D. and you're a good-for-nothing
dropout and a nut on top of it." Jed had had enough.
Jed followed John to the school, and shot him dead right there at the
commencement ceremony.

It appears that we approach politics from two completely different angles.
Where I decide whether to support a particular party or candidate based on
specific actions I expect them to take if they win, you decide based on
something I can't even define clearly. Your horse racing story seems to
indicate that you just want to vote for the candidate who wins the election
(which has no particular benefit, of course). Much of your commentary
suggests that your only criteria is that the candidate should promise to be
a departure from 'the same old thing'. If you can't define specific problems
with the 'old thing' and specific solutions in the 'new thing' then the
prospects for this change yielding anything that you will consider an
improvement are slim and none.
By ignoring everything worthy of consideration in a political race (such
as principles, objectives, experience, and past actions) the lazy
voter (or non-voter) sees it as just another beauty contest and the
natural reaction becomes instant boredom with each winner and a constant
preference for NEW media-meat.
Yes, there are some great people in American politics, but you will not
discover them by comparing TV images and ages. They are great because of the
stands they take on issues and their consistency in applying ideas like
limited government and individual liberty. To recognize those who are great
for you, you must pay attention and do your own thinking.

Yes Dean, you are right - I am apathetic towards politicians at this point.
Also frustrated, disappointed and discouraged! At one time not so long ago,
I was always in the thick of politics - looking behind the news media hype
and judging for myself. The Mecham thing really did it for me! Through my
husband's work, we got involved in the Mecham camp. Not that I think he was
so great - he did have many good points however, but the political machine
that did him under (simply because he wasn't one of them!) rules this state
with an iron fist. This is not idle heresay on my part. We were on the
inside and it was scarey. So much so, that we all kept our mouths shut and
still do. Mecham was not an Az. politician in any sense of the word, so he
had to be removed one way or the other and was! What better way than to use
the people and the paper? Anyway - no use digging up dead horses, but that
is why I am so down on politics. Is Arizona so unique? Right now I'm under
the opinion that if someone good does come along - he'll end up the same way
Mecham did if he doesn't play ball on the right team! See you. =*--ANN--*=
P.S. I still feel that if he had remained in office regardless of his

The human animal (you and me) should have been weened around the age
of one, give or take several months. Why do you think we humans need MILK?
It causes mucous, most of the milk lays in our intestines and ROTS.
        Weren't you weaned properly?

I'll be working at the Mall all four days, come on over and say

Subject: Candidate/truth or ?
Date: 08/14/88 Time: 21:55:54

I don't believe there has been a Presidential candidate since
John Kennedy who does not have mutable hooks in them. Looking at a
candidates past record is a way of telling something about that person
but is not a guarantee. For those of us who are NOT in the know, we
who are spoon fed political propaganda from the different camps, we
must draw our conclusions from the writers who feed us.
I see the office of President as nothing more than a managers
position, a person who takes orders from the real power, the people who
sponsored him for the race. To me, it is Madison Avenue hype, whatever
sells, promote. The truly powerful would, in no way, want to be in the
position of mere President, after all, they pull the strings and all
the candidate has to do is look good for the people. Besides, the
power, the chairman of the board, if you will, has no desire to be used
for target practice, that could be dangerous to one's health.
The power people look for the most likely person to sponsor and
if that person will push their particular ideas, they will be entered
into the race. It is much like a day at the track. The Kennedy Clan had
their own wealth and had no need to sell out to other interests.
So, how can one choose a candidate without knowing which power
entity is the sponsor? We can guess which one backed Robertson, but
the behind the scene deals should, by law, (no way) be made public and
at least, in that way, we will know more of what is truly going on in
our political arena.

(Clarification : Okay, John, Robert and Ted was sponsored by
Joe, Sr. and I'm sure his influence was felt in the Presidency.

Remember, it is not necessarily the candidates we are voting
for, it is the power behind the so called throne. An individual who
has a desire to be President, has not, by themselves, the means to
accomplish this goal. It takes a lot of money and many deals have to
be made. It is like me going to a bank and taking out a loan for
$20,000. In a sense, the bank now owns a part of me and for the
money I borrowed, I will be paying back a far greater sum.

That way the SYSOP's kids can show off all the nasty words Rod teaches 'em.

Actually, I got a call the other day from a guy who had lived in the same

Whew, I was worried about you for a second. Imagine, not doing something
just for an ethical principle. Not doing it because the guy couldn't pay
you the fair market price of your work is more like it. After all, pure
capitalism depends on people being only motivated by money. Throwing in
other motivations like ethics and charity are destroying our economy.
These socialistic influences must be purged!

Everyone has his price. If the guy had offered me, say, $500,000 to write
papers for his class, I might have agreed to do it. But I'm certainly not
going to compromise my ethics when I can get paid more for writing for which
I don't have to compromise my ethics. Last week I got paid $350 for a
five-and-a-half-page political speech. I know this guy wouldn't have been
able to pay me anywhere near this -- and, as I say, he would have to offer a
hefty additional inducement for me to copromise my ethics.
