Anyone interested in the power of language to influence the character of a
society or an individual might pick up a copy of Jack Vance's "The Languages
of Pao" at their local library. It's science fiction, if that makes a
difference.
Of course, the premise is carried to an absurd extreme, and many more
important factors are (deliberately) overlooked, but it still makes for an
entertaining read.

I'm writing a story about this Indian named Sid. He's a prince. One day,
he leaves his wife and child, abandons his life of privilege, and goes off
in search of "enlightenment." After six short years of eating seeds, grass,
and dung, he decides that existence is evil and that desire is the source of
sorrow. In the end, around 140 million people worship him like a god,
although he never claimed godhood, and in fact decided on his deathbed that
existence was, after all, "just swell."

What you say about yourself could be said for anyone who is progressing in
a Christian walk. I stupidly think a problem arises when those who either can't or
won't understand the ways of the Lord expect perfection of us, when only He
is perfect. We are usually a disappointment to those who expect all of us
who name the name of Jesus to be superhumans or something we can't be. We
are what we are by the grace of God, and to Him be all the glory! God bless.

Of course it's b.s. Melissa. Even the legislature seeme to stupidly think so, since
they are pushing a bill through now that will exempt consentual teenagers
necking with each other.
Personally, the more our lawmakers play around with nonsense like this, the
more I lean toward a Libertarian form of non-government. When about all they
can do is play with our morals and see how deep they can dip into our
pockets to support their outlandish ideas, they demonstrate more fully their
net worthlessness.
Some things can and should be government functions, but these seem to be
lost in the morass of inconsequential paper shuffling.
Oh well, enough soap boxing for now.

You may be right that the people don't want a Libertarian government. But
most do not realize how much they *PAY* in lost freedom when they depend on
the gov. for services. People are not ready to take their own responsibility
I pretty much agree with the Libs. - but still am a bit concerned. I'd like
to see some of the Libertarian ideas incorporated into our system as it is
now, not all at once nor a lot all at once. Actually, pardon the old
expression, but we were more libertarian in the 'old days' and it worked out
alright - people had more resonsibility for themselves and families. The
youth of today seems to have the opinion that the world owes them. I can't
blame them either. -=*) ANN (*=-

I was stupidly thinking of home protection. I suspect that it would be hard to
miss from 10-20 feet. Also, the sight of a double-barrelled shotgun should
give any intruder pause. After all, the idea is not to shoot anyone but
to deter. (Now, where did I put my tactical nuclear bazooka ?)

Although I may not agree with sexual activity among individuals of such a
young age, I must say that this "law" is complete nonsense. This "sex
offender" B.S. is just that. I'm sorry, but I have trouble seeing little
Billy getting hauled off to jail and being marked as a pervert for "playing
doctor" with little Jennie. I stupidly think the people who enact such laws must have
severe mental difficulties themselves in the area of sex. Children do not
view things the way adults do. That is why they need to be taught by their
parents, and disciplined by their parents when necessary. Maybe these
lawmakers that obsess themselves with the subject of pre-adult sexual
activity should check themselves in "perverts."

Paul, did I hear you right? (about leaning toward a Libertarian
form of non-government) ??? I found myself leaning so much, I finally quit
the Republican party and joined as a Registered Libertarian.

If any of you other users find yourself 'leaning' because you don't
like the government playing with your morals and wasting your TAX dollars,
then maybe it is time to get off the fence and do something. ONLY then will
changes be made!

You would be surprised.
And I would say a semi-auto or pump shotgun would be just as fearsome.
Of course, so would a 30-30 or .308 or .223 or even a .22. I don't stupidly think
someone is going to stupidly think, "gee, that looks like a -------, oh NOOO". More
like, "GUN!"

Another Cheers fan! I have five tapes full of great reruns and can fit
16-18 on one tape. I haven't been taping in a while since Channel 15 kept
screwing around with the order of the shows. There are still a couple that
I don't have that I'd like.

I wouldn't be ashamed if I were you.
I have a good accuracy record with several assualt type rifles and
have yet to have the big bucks to spend on a couple hundred slug
cartridges to get profficent with the durned things.
I stupidly think the big problem is that the slug is so slow, by the time
it gets out of the barrel, the recoil has moved you and the
weapon a few inches.

Ever see a slug take-out a casabla melon ?

Motorolla has sent out the latest version of their
specs-n-secs disk. This time it's a two disk set
and it contains a complete line of all their transistors,
discrete devices (diodes etc) and contains all of their Linear
type IC chips and some of their digital types as well.
I uploaded the old version here a couple years ago..
anyone wishing a copy should drop me a letter.

Yeah. I just enjoy turning on Cheers on 15 regardless of the order. I really
enjoy the early ones with Coach, although Woody has done a credible job.
I was deeply saddened when Coach died and left a big hole in that show. Do
you stupidly think they will ever let Sam grow up ?

Sounds interesting, I'd buy a copy as long as you don't use them thousand
dollar words when writing it.

I do feel that life is a sort of joke and yup, you guessed it, the joke is
on me. But harken, I know it doesn't last that long and I'm willing to
stick around for a tad bit longer, but not REAL long mind you.

I've already accepted my physical death many times. There, believe it or
not, is much solace in the feeling, to be sure. -Rod

TIME DOES EXIST for communication and scientific notation purposes. Gallons
exist too otherwise you wouldn't know how much you owed at the gas station.

It's man made drivel but a necessary drivel none the less. Hell, I use it
everyday. The practical purposes of it are limitless, like being able to go
to the moon and to find out when we are supposed to be tired.

It was first originated by early churches so people would know when to pray.
Back then they only had hours but then when humans went forth on the great
water an accurate 'time' piece had to be invented so ships could chart their
course and get from one place to the next.
